I WANT TO LEARN FROM SOYEON

Soyeon An, is a student currently studying a double degree of Music and Science at Monash university specialising in performance in playing the viola in her third year. She started playing her instrument around year 3, at the age of 10 for compulsory music classes, and kept onto it with passion. Also joining ensembles right at the beginning of her music journey, she has never taken a break from orchestral works, attending weekly rehearsals in school and to the present day doing orchestras including the MAO, Monash Academic orchestra, string ensembles and chamber music along with her solo repertoire study, which she considers a very important component of music.

During school, she has competed in eisteddfods with the Orchestra and Quintet she was a part in, the quintet achieving second place in the Ballarat South Street eisteddfod. For her studies, she attends weekly workshops/ masterclasses to watch performances both within the university grounds and at venues such as the Melbourne recital centre, or to perform, receiving feedbacks and comments from her co-ordinator, Anna McMichael, for her growth as a musician. She has received lessons from musicians including Lisa Grosman, Helen Ireland, and Katie Yap in her recent years.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM BRENDON

Brendon Siemsen is a musician of the highest calibre and is extremely well respected in both the performing arts and arts education communities. That his work in schools has helped produce some of the finest musicians is testament to his own musical skill and also the quality of his mentoring and teaching. Brendon’s altruistic commitment to the development and promotion of other musicians only serves to strengthen the artistic experiences for children and young people.

Brendon has as Bachelor’s Degree in Music, Associate Diploma of Music, a Bachelor of Education and has studied at the renowned Musicians Institute in Hollywood USA, Berklee College of Music,Boston USA and privately with some of the world’s leading jazz and fusion players such as John Abercrombie, Pat Martino, Scott Henderson, Joe Diorio, Jeff Richman and Ron Eschete.

Brendon has been working as a professional guitarist for 30 years. He has had around 5000 live performance credits in all genres of music. Career highlights include MONA FOMA 2019, 2O20 and a regular performer at Paris Cat Jazz club in Melbourne 2018-2020. Brendon has been a force of energy in music education. This includes a 23-year career as a music teacher in Tasmanian Colleges. He was a guitar tutor and ensemble director in Contemporary Music – University of Tasmania 2004-2005.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM JB

Dr. J. B. Smith is Emeritus Professor of Music and the former Coordinator of Percussion Studies at Arizona State University. He is internationally recognized as a performer, composer, educator and conductor. He directed the ASU Contemporary Percussion Ensemble and performed with a variety of ensembles including The Desert's Edge Clarinet-Percussion Duo with Dr. Robert Spring, Crossing 32nd Street, Ensemble 21, The Daniel Lentz Group, Summit Brass and The Phoenix Symphony. Dr. Smith proudly endorses Pearl Drums, Adams Percussion, Remo Drumheads, Zildjian Cymbals, Mike Balter Mallets, and Grover Pro Percussion.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM TIMOTHY

As a professional musician with over twelve years gigging, recording and teaching, Timothy Johnson has worked professionally in the corporate and private event/wedding environment and across the country and at some of the most prestigious music festivals and venues (inc Byron Bay Bluesfest, Woodford Folk Festival). Timothy developed an intense fascination with music at a young age, and since completing his Bachelor’s degree in Popular Music & Performance at JMC Academy in Sydney in 2013, Timothy has gone on to to work in various stylistic mediums, from big band to small ensemble, and has held several solo piano residencies. Timothy is also a weekly volunteer at the Royal Melbourne Hospital as part of their Music Therapy team, and will be commencing a Masters of Music Therapy at Melbourne University in 2021.

As a teacher, Timothy has worked with students of all ages and skill levels, from pre-school age to adults aged 60+, and excels at tailoring programs for each student’s individual musical taste and goals. Timothy teaches from a holistic musical perspective, incorporating elements of music theory, critical listening skills and seeking to develop the student’s own internalised musical sense, known as audiation. Whether it’s piano fundamentals, technique, sight reading, improvisation or composition, Timothy can empower any student to progress and grow on piano or keyboard, and music more generally.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM HARRY

Harry is a classically trained violinist with more than 15 years of experience and is currently finishing his musical education at the Melbourne University Conservatory of Music, specialising in performance under the tutelage of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra violinist Oksana Thompson and professional solo violist, Wenhong Luo. Having experienced a wide range of musical styles, from Bach to Barber, and performance opportunities with the MSO, Harry is equipped to fuel his passion for music by guiding his students to reach their goals, and also develop their own passions and love for music. Harry’s teaching aims to provide an outlet for musical expression supported by a stable technical foundation, facilitated by learning that is informative as it is engaging, making sure each and every student knows what they're practicing and what goals they attain, whether it be technical dexterity, quality of sound, or musical expression. The end goal for every student is not only the development of technical ability and expression, but also encouraging a warm learning environment which fosters a greater love for music and being able to express it through each student's performance. Whether it be for leisure, or for vocation, each student will reach their desired level of proficiently at their own pace and understand and most importantly, enjoy what they play. Harry is most familiar with the AMEB system of progression and encourages students to take part, but is open to other syllabi, depending on the students' requests and needs.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM MIA

Coming from a musical family, Mia began drum lessons just before turning 12 as a second instrument to piano. After finding an immediate passion for drums, she went on to win numerous awards in Australia’s Best Up & Coming Drummer competition and perform regularly in her high school ensembles.

Currently studying a Bachelor of Music Performance at Monash, Mia is actively involved in jazz ensembles as well as gaining experience in Latin Jazz. She also composes, sings and drums in her own Rock band as well as drumming for various funk groups. Over the course of her musical journey, Mia has been mentored by highly respected teachers such as Jack Bennett, Darryn Farrugia, Tony Floyd, Damian Corniola and Danny Fischer.

As an enthusiastic teacher, Mia is dedicated to helping her students discover and enhance their own musicality and interests, and creating a fun learning environment where students are given the tools to take their drumming in whatever direction they choose. She is able to adapt her teaching approach to different students based on their own learning styles, with a focus on technique, improvisation, listening, reading and theory.

With over a decade of drumming experience in a wide variety of styles, Callum is ready to deliver you customised lessons that leave you feeling inspired and motivated. In his final year of Melbourne Polytechnic’s Bachelor of Music, Callum has developed a keen ear and the theory skills to deliver customised lessons complete with personally transcribed charts, and a wide collection of drumming literature. Having experience in teaching <10-year old’s all the way up to adults, Callum is a relaxed and approachable teacher who wants to make the learning process motivating and enjoyable. I WANT TO LEARN FROM VANESSA

Vanessa Marryatt began her studies in music first on the piano at the age of five, and later on the cello at age ten. Finding a strong passion for music, she is currently studying at the University of Melbourne doing a Bachelor of Music, majoring in cello performance. As a performer, Vanessa has attended several festivals such as the Melbourne Cello Festival (2017) and the Akaroa festival (2018 & 2019), where she had the opportunity to perform as a soloist as well as within various ensembles. She has worked alongside and learned from world-class performers such as Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, Brandon Vamos, Alvin Wong, Howard Penny, Ramon Jaffe, Inbal Megiddo, Yelian He, and Alexander Gebert. She also had many performance opportunities during her studies with the Pettman National Junior Academy in Auckland. Vanessa has also been the recipient of the University of Melbourne’s Liselotte ‘Lilo’ Nassau Scholarship in 2019 for excellence in music, as well as undertaking the University’s Ignite Lab Community Artist internship in which she worked with Katie Pryce and her company Concerteenies. She enjoys working with a range of musicians, with experience collaborating with both contemporary composers at the Victorian College of the Arts and classical composers and musicians.

Vanessa is a passionate and engaged teacher, with experience teaching both cello and piano, and both young and adult learners. She carefully tailors her lessons to the needs and interest of the student, and believes that joy in music should be cultivated throughout the learning process. She focuses primarily on technique, theoretical knowledge and unique musical expression in her students.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM JES

Jes is studying a bachelor of music performance (clarinet) at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, under the tutelage of the esteemed David Griffiths (clarinet) and Phillip Arkinstall (bass clarinet). He has received first class honours for all of his numerous solo recitals at university, and has also immensely enjoyed working with emerging composers to pioneer new works. He also placed first in the MCM Clarinet Day Young Artist Competition in 2019. Jes is also experienced with a wide range of ensemble playing, seated as principal clarinet in the University of Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra alongside a passion for playing with wind ensemble, stage bands and chamber groups. As an experienced teacher, Jes puts his focus first on making sure that every student enjoys their lessons as much as possible and shares in his passion for learning and spreading love for music. He recognises that each student is unique and needs different content to allow their creativity and musicality shine, whether it be through the AMEB syllabus, focussing on theory and technique or learning their favourite songs.

Tom is a passionate guitarist and a dedicated music educator. With a calm and patient demeanour, Tom helps create the perfect atmosphere for his students to realise their full potential on the instrument. Tom has studied with some of the Australian music industry's leading professionals and delights in sharing this experience with his students. Graduating with a Bachelor of music, Tom teaches music styles and genres ranging from classical guitar, through to jazz and popular music. Developing a dynamic approach to teaching over 10 years experience, Tom carefully caters his approach to each individual. As an accomplished musician, Tom has performed in Sydney and abroad for over 5 years. Active in the Sydney jazz scene, he regularly performs at local bars, clubs, pubs and festivals. An avid composer of music, Tom also offers lessons in composition and songwriting. Tom enjoys tutoring students of all ages and abilities.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM JAMES

Born in Melbourne, James is an emerging pianist of the new generation. He is the First Prize winner of the East Coast International Competition 2017 (USA), and has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York. James made his concerto debut with the Zelman Symphony Orchestra, performing Liszt’s Piano Concerto no 1. Aside from his Carnegie Hall recital, he has been heard on 3MBS (103.5 FM) and Pulse (94.7 FM), and has performed in venues such as the Melbourne Recital Centre, Melbourne Town Hall, and Robert Blackwood Hall. He has recently been a finalist in the Australian Youth Classical Music Competition and the Boroondara Piano Concerto Competition, and has also participated in masterclasses with notable composers and musicians such as Unsuk Chin, Leslie Howard and Stephen Hough.

James teaches students of any age and ability. He offers comprehensive preparation for AMEB and ABRSM exams at all levels, which includes teaching his students music theory and general knowledge where pertinent. He also helps to prepare students for VCE Music Performance, for both the performance and aural exams.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM JESSIE

Since completing her Bachelor of Music and Arts (Honours) at the James Morrison Academy of Music (JMA), majoring in Saxophone, Jessie Bartlett has been working as a professional musician on cruise ships for Royal Caribbean and Azamara cruise lines. During her time at JMA, Jessie primarily studied jazz alto saxophone, studying under the likes of James Morrison, Graeme Lyall, Jeff Clayton, Troy Roberts, Carl Mackey and Angela Davis. She played lead alto in one of JMA’s big bands, which performed at the Wangaratta Jazz festival and was featured as a soloist in one of Morrison’s academy performances at the Gold Coast Arts Centre. After graduating, Jessie’s performance experience is expansive, from big production shows with singers and dancers or accompanying renowned entertainers in large cruise ship theatres to playing with funk ensembles at Melbourne venues like the Night Cat or the Cherry Bar. She has also worked with various large and small jazz ensembles and played in the orchestra for musicals. This all vastly contrasts with Jessie's earlier classical music studies, where she worked on a repertoire of AMEB grade 8 equivalent, of varying classical styles, on alto saxophone.

Jessie is very passionate about music and sharing the joy of playing with others. As well as being a skilled performer, she is an experienced teacher and has taught instrumental lessons privately and at various school, from young children to adults.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM VESNA

Vesna is experienced piano teacher and performer. She finished her Master piano studies in 2013 in Belgrade, Serbia. She lived and worked in Serbia, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates and Melbourne, preparing students for ABRSM, Trinity, Trinity Pop/Rock, AMEB piano and ABRSM theory examinations.

She is very patient, positive and enthusiastic and teaches her students all aspects of piano playing (technique, expression, theory, general knowledge, sight-reading and aural training) in a very fun and engaging way.

Vesna is very interested in learning about each individual student and its needs, in order to determine what suits them best.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM ELISE

Elise graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Music Theatre) from Western Australian Academy of performing Arts (WAAPA) in 2018. Prior to WAAPA, Elise also trained at ShowFit and Howard Fine Acting Studio.Elise is the recipient of the 2019 Larry Moss Master class Schollarship. Elise attained the Premieres award for excellence, topping the State with her Cabaret performance (VET Music performance and VCE Music). During her time at WAAPA, Elise appeared as Nettie in in Carousel (dir. Jason Langley), Carla in In The Hights (dir. Crispin Taylor), Frieda in Sunday in the Park with George (dir. Tyran Park), Fredrick and Understudy for Rachel in Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (dir. Shawn Rennie), Betty in 42nd Street (dir. Jason Langley), Roger in Lord of the Flies (dir. Crispin Taylor).

In 2018 Elise collaborated with WA ballet Soloist, Oscar Valdes. A creative development they both choreographed and directed, in which Elise was hailed for her outstanding vocals in the performance.

You may have seen Elise performing in Broadway Unplugged shows in 2019. Elise was invited as a guest artist to perform at their Big 11’ O’clock of Musical theatre Broadway unplugged show. Most Recently, Elise played the role of Katharine in The Australian debut of 50 Shades, the Musical Parody as part of this year’s comedy festival. She is also a vocalist for the Richmond AFL Foot Ball Club 2019.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM MADELEINE

Madeleine Remont is a professional flute player and educator who is extremely passionate about music. She has been playing flute for over 10 years and has experience with not only classical music but contemporary, jazz and world music as well. Madeleine has recently completed her Bachelor of Arts/Music specialising in flute performance and has also obtained her AMusA. Madeleine’s lessons are dynamic, engaging, using a variety of modern and individualised techniques to draw out the best in all her students.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM BERNADETTE

BERNADETTE METHER is a passionate Singer, Guitarist, Music Director, and Teacher whose love of music spans a lifetime. Throughout the last three decades, she has helped many students discover and refine their unique singing voices while touching the lives of many through her musical performances. In addition to being a Licentiate in Music, she holds a Graduate Diploma in Special Education and Bachelor of Arts degree in Music History. At the end of the day, music isn’t something Bernadette simply does, it’s who she is at a soul level.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM GINA

A classically trained violinist, Gina completed her Bachelor of Music at the Monash University Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music, having studied under the tutelage of Dr. Elizabeth Sellars, Lisa Grosman, Rachel Beesley, and Erica Kennedy. She has performed internationally in both solo and ensemble capacities in the USA, Italy and Australia, in collaboration with notable artists such as Tony Gould, Archie Roach, Lior, Nigel Westlake and Benjamin Northey. Gina has also successfully competed in a number of performance competitions, including placing first in the West Gippsland Eisteddfod’s Instrumental Solo Championship.

At the heart of her teaching, Gina’s passion as an educator lies in seeing her students flourish as critical and creative thinkers through their developing musicianship. She is committed to setting students up with the tools they need as musicians, including good techniques, aural and sight-reading skills, and musical knowledge and theory. Each lesson is tailored to the individual needs of the students to ensure they are engaged and enjoying their learning, while guiding students to achieve their best with their examinations and performance goals

I WANT TO LEARN FROM KEVIN

Kevin Zhi Hong LEAN, a Malaysia-born, Melbourne based classical guitarist, Kevin is currently holding a sponsorship by the Singapore’s Ministry of Education and the Ellinor Gertrude Harris Bequest to pursue his Bachelor of Music majoring in classical guitar performance in the University of Melbourne under tutelage by Dan Mckay (Australia).

Kevin has completed a Diploma in Music Teaching in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and a Diploma in Music Education in National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. Aside performance, he has taught both privately and in a Singapore local school for multiple years and cultivated musical interest in people of all walks of life. Kevin believes that every individual is musical in their own way and aims to discover the different musical talent in each individual regardless of background.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM FRANKIE

Frankie Demuru is a professional live/studio drummer and drum teacher, with an extensive experience in Rock and Metal Drumming. He accepts students of all ages and levels (starting from 7 years old) wanting to play the drums, learn how to perform their favourite songs and have fun! Frankie is now available in 3 different locations in the Northern Suburbs (Sunbury, Fawkner, Bundoora) or to your door. Starting his live/recording activity on the kit at a very young age under the guidance of his ex-teacher Raphael Saini (Ex-Iced Earth), Frankie developed a drumming style that suits all the Modern genres of Rock, Pop, Hardcore and Metal, which is strongly inspired by the roots and pioneers of all heavy genres and many more.

In 2019, Frankie joined the acclaimed one-woman Black Atm. Metal project Suldusk and performed at the Music Victoria Awards at the Melbourne Recital Centre. On the night, the band was awarded with the “Best Heavy Album of the Year” for the Album ‘Lunar Falls’. Since a very young age he has participated to clinics, lessons and masterclasses with: Mike Mangini, George Kollias, John Macaluso, Dino Verdade, Dom Famularo, Jason Bowld, Sergio Bellotti, Thomas Lang, Dave Lombardo, Mark Zonder, Virgil Donati, Mike Johnston, Benny Greb, Jp Bouvet, Hannes Grossmann, Peter Wildoer, James Payne, Francesco Paoli and many more.

In 2020, Frankie is performing in the major cities of Australia with his bands Suldusk, Myriad Drone and The Bones of God, whilst keeping himself active as a session musician, studying a Bachelor Degree at Melbourne Polytechnic, writing new records, and of course, teaching drums!

I WANT TO LEARN FROM TOM

Tom Lindsay has been playing guitar for thirteen years. During this time, he has gigged around Melbourne, competed in Jazz competitions, and is currently studying a Double Degree of Arts and Music at Monash University (specializing in contemporary guitar). Tom is an experienced guitarist, comfortable playing anything from Jazz and blues to R‘n’B to Funk. Tom has taught VCE students of guitar and percussion. He knows how to engage students with complex concepts in a fun and inspiring way.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM AMY

An internationally travelled violinist and chamber performer, Amy you is a current Bachelor of Music (Honours) student studying at The University of Melbourne. Amy is a warm hearted and inspiring musician and teacher, having cultivated her passion for music since she was 5 years old. As the competition winner of the Regional section of Australian Youth Classical Music Competition, concertmaster and associate concertmaster of The University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and a violinist in the internationally travelled string quartet, Kalon Quartet, Amy is a well-rounded and versatile professional musician. She is a dedicated music teacher with 4 years of professional experience, whose primary goal is to unlock her students’ musical potential and spark a love for the violin. Amy understands that every student is unique, and aims to create a warm, encouraging and enjoyable lesson environment for her students, to ensure the growth of not only their skill, but also their love for music.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM MARK

Mark is a teacher and performer with nearly forty years experience. He has performed in professional musical theatre, opera, and with a number of Symphony orchestras. He is also an experienced Musical Director with experience conducting all types of ensembles, from primary school concert bands, to opera.

Mark teaches saxophone, bassoon, clarinet, and flute as well as music theory and musicianship. He has taught both classroom and peripatetic music in public and private schools, and is very experienced in exam preparation. Mark is also a musicologist and musical historian and tutors both HSC and university students.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM MATTHEW

Matt started guitar lessons when he was six and is now studying The Bachelor of Music, specialising in contemporary guitar with Doug de Vries, at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (majoring in Music Performance). He is in his third year and will have completed the degree by the end of this year. Matt specialises in electric guitar and steel string guitar, both lead and rhythm, and can play and teach many styles of music, including rock, pop, blues, country, solo, and fingerstyle guitar. Matt has also completed AMEB exams; Contemporary Popular Music, Advancing Step 3 and Step 4. He received a Pass with Honours in both exams.

Matt is an experienced music teacher, with three years’ experience. Matt cares deeply about what his students want to learn, and he tailors his lessons to meet their musical interests and goals, whether they want to play guitar as a hobby, or it is their intention to become a professional musician. These lessons can include music theory, sight-reading, improvising, comping, soloing, transcribing, accompanying, or a mix of everything. Matt just wants to see his students achieve their musical intentions.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM DYLAN!
With 10 years of experience Dylan has explored most parts of the music industry from songwriting, performing, touring, sound engineering, playing multiple instruments (Guitar, drums, piano, bass, mandolin, voice), as well as all other aspects of an independent artist, performer and teacher.

This Experience combined with a Bachelors degree in Contemporary music from Southern Cross University puts him in a position to help with all aspects of a students journey from the bedroom player to adapt musicians trying to make their way in the music industry.

Dylan’s lessons are multifaceted and personalised, focusing on fulfilling goals of each student. This down to earth, relaxed teaching style is perfect for students who want more than just learning an instrument, but also want mentorship and guidance from lived experience.

Students can choose from a range of lessons such as:

· Guitar: Beginner to advance lessons in genres such as Pop, Folk, Celtic, Rock, Blues, Classical, Jazz, RnB, Country, Finger Style, Travis Picking and more.

· Live Performance: Preparing for a performance, dealing with nerves, how to engage with an audience and how to put on a show.

· Songwriting / Composing: Learn the fundamentals of songwriting, how to write songs, lyric writing, musical theory (how music functions), how to analyse existing songs, dealing with writer’s block.

· Recording / Sound Production: How to start recording at home, the fundamentals of sound theory, creating beats, mixing and editing. Logic Pro X or Pro Tools.

· Music Business: How to book gigs, Email writing, invoicing, creating a website, how to run a social media page, how to get paid!

· Music Law: Copyright laws, how to read contracts, and how to keep you and your music safe.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM NANDA

Nanda began her music studies at the age of 7 and is currently completing her Bachelor of Music degree at The University of Melbourne (Specialising in Violin Performance). She has received tutelage from past and present violinists of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra including Cong Gu, Wilma Smith and Mark Mogilevski, as well as pianist Darryl Coote.

Nanda has completed AMEB Associate (A.Mus.A) and Licentiate (L.Mus.A) Diplomas in Violin, as well as an Associate Diploma (A.Mus.A) in Piano. She was awarded with Honours for her completion of Music Theory. She is also a recipient of multiple Corinna D’Hage Mayer String Scholarships and enjoys performing regularly in the Melbourne University Symphony Orchestra as well as other chamber ensembles. Nanda is committed to teaching in an encouraging and positive environment, while tailoring lessons to individuals. She wishes to guide students of all levels with methods of achieving effective technique, expressive musicality and creative interpretation.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM ROHAN

Rohan is a versatile tuba player who has experience playing a range of repertoire across several different musical contexts. A classically trained musician, he is thorough in the Western Art music tradition. He has experience performing works from the renaissance up until the contemporary periods, including electroacoustic pieces. He has been involved in performances and premières in solo, chamber (brass quintets, mixed ensembles, etc.) and large ensemble (orchestral) settings.

Additionally, Rohan is very passionate about wind and brass banding. He has taken part in high level contesting and competing in both university and community settings. He is competent on Eb and BBb basses and capable of providing instruction on other band instruments, particularly low brass: Euphonium, Baritone Horn, Trombone and Bass Trombone.

Rohan is also experienced at playing the tuba (also helicons and sousaphones!) in an array of ‘world music’ ensembles, such as Klezmer, Choro and Salsa. Tuition in these genres, or others that take the students’ interests, is possible. Lessons place emphasis on good technique, practice etiquette, positivity and growth mind-set.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM HINA

Hina has been playing the violin and performing since she was five. Through her years of schooling, she not only was part of many of the ensembles, but also was given opportunities to perform as a soloist with the school orchestra. In addition, she has taken part in the State Music Camp and the Melbourne Youth Orchestra, where she was able to develop her ensemble skills. She also has gotten a glimpse of the professional industry through performances with the rock band Foreigner for their concerts in Melbourne, performing in the orchestra at Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight and playing alongside the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. She is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Music at the University of Melbourne, and is studying under Wilma Smith.

Hina has performed at venues such as the Melbourne Recital Centre, Hamer Hall and the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. She also broadens her horizon as a musician by performing and practicing non-classical genres including country, jazz and modern music. She often performs at house concerts, folk festivals, retirement houses and childcare centres.

With a strong passion for working with and sharing the joy of music with others, Hina teaches many students of a wide range of ages and abilities. She always tries to find ways in which each student learns best in order to maximise their lessons. She not only focuses on techniques but also the development of one’s expressive techniques and musicianship behind the music they play.

Houston Dunleavy is an Ulster-born Australian composer, conductor and educator with a 30-year career as a creative academic in Higher Education. He has taught at The State University of New York at Buffalo, Interlochen Arts Camp, The University of Wollongong where he was Head of Composition and Acting Head of School, and The Australian Institute of Music, where he as Head of Composition and Production, and Academic Director of The Australian Guild of Music Education until 2020. He has published over 80 compositions and had performances on every continent except Antarctica. He has conducted over 40 operas, and appeared as Guest conductor on Festivals throughout the world. A new music specialist, he has been called “one of the best interpreters of new music of his generation” (Buffalo Arts Voice) and has been Visiting composer at over 30 festivals and universities, and his works are recorded on the Wirripang, Wayfarer, and OSH labels. In addition, he has conducted recordings for ABC Classics and Sony.

Domenico de Cesare is an Italian multi-instrumentalist and audio-visual composer based in Adelaide.

He has studied music in Italy, Estonia and Turkey. He has a PhD in Musicology from the University of Salento, Lecce (Italy), an M. A. in Music Technology from the Conservatorio Tito Schipa, Lecce (Italy)
 and a B. C. Audiovisual Composition from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater, Tallinn (Estonia). He is primarily a guitar and bass guitar player (over 25 years) and has played didgeridoo and percussion for over 10 years. He has conducted rock bands, word music ensembles and percussion bands. His rich musical background and experiences include composing and playing in various European projects, work as sound technician for bands and sound editor for movies. He is also experienced with software for audio recording and editing.

Domenico has taught music in Italian public schools, has tutored adults and children as young as 5 years old. Through his multi-cultural experiences and music passion he has developed successful teaching methods, based on the exchange of experiences between student and teacher.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM YII YING

Born in Malaysia, Yii Ying began her musical studies when she was six. Since then, she has won numerous international and local competitions, and given performances in Malaysia, China, USA, Italy and Australia. Recent achievements include her concerto debut as a soloist for the Etruscan Concerto by Peggy Glanville-Hicks with conductor Tianyi Lu, a sold-out solo recital in collaboration with Casa Capriccio Musica in Kuching, Malaysia, a performance at the Lincoln Center, New York City, as well as gaining Silver and Bronze Prizes in both the Young Artist and Open Category at the Kingsburg International Piano Competition in China. Her musical pursuit was supported by the Monash University Elite Student Performer Scheme and Yayasan Sarawak.

Being a passionate and enthusiastic teacher, she always tries her best to make sure that students are engaged and are enjoying her lesson. She believes that each student has unique learning needs and often tailor the curriculum to match the student’s needs. She focuses on musicality and expressions, general music knowledge, techniques, sight-reading skills and theory.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM JACOB

Jacob is an adaptable and motivated teacher that is always looking for new ways for his students to be able to engage with learning music. He has a degree in music majoring in Contemporary Guitar Performance from The University of Otago. Currently based in Warrnambool, he has teaching locations in Portland and Camperdown, and is savvy with teaching online lessons. He is passionate about learning music theory and loves to dissect music to find out how it works. Being a contemporary guitar player means that learning music by ear is part and parcel with his musicianship, and he believes that it is useful for his students to learn to do the same. He also finds that being able to understand music notation is integral for students to contextualise how music fits together and participate in ensembles.

Jacob has been developing guitar tuition videos for students on YouTube, as well as performing live music with other musicians in his Trelissick Sessions YouTube series – make sure to check them out! You can see in these videos that John Mayer and Tom Misch are significant influences in Jacob’s style, though he loves music like Jamiroquai and Van Halen too.

Studying a Bachelor of Music and Science at Monash University, Paul studies violin under the tutelages of Erica Kennedy and Rachael Beesley. Since then he has performed with the Monash Academy Orchestra, Essentio quartet and received a masterclass from KRONOS Quartet. He also is an avid lover of chamber music, performing with multiple piano quintets in the Australian Music Prize, Chamber Day and The Day of Play at Monash University.

As an educator, Paul loves sharing his passion for music, exploring how colours and stories can be shown through the instrument, teaching multiple students from beginner to advanced, he tailors to every individual’s strong suit in music. He also matches to the student’s needs, developing technique fit for every individual student in order to propel them to their best.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM TIM

Timothy Kan is a Chinese pianist based in Melbourne who has a passion for making classical music. Although he started his piano studies at the age of 5 in Hong Kong, it was not until he studied under his high school piano teacher at the University High School, Eddie Dorn, did he decide to pursue music in University.

Tim had recently graduated from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music with Honours. Over the course of the degree, he has studied with the renowned Glenn Riddle and has participated in numerous masterclasses with brilliant pianists in the Conservatory. Some of which include Alexandre Dossin, Igor Machlak, Glenn Riddle, Ronald Farren-Price, Kenji Fujimura, Janine Sowden, and Jerry Wong. Additionally, he has learnt numerous techniques from them in the approach to improving technique on the piano and the approach to efficient learning.

In the past 4 years, Tim has actively performed around Melbourne both as a solo performer and as a chamber musician. He has accumulated much experience by performing solo in eisteddfods in the Melbourne suburbs in addition to his chamber performances in the Conservatory with his colleagues. He is looking forward to performing the Chausson quartet and Rachmaninoff Trio no. 2 with his colleagues later this year.

For the past three years, Tim has been teaching piano in his home studio. He has taught students as young as 4 up to the age of 13. Tim often uses different analogies and anecdotes to help the student to understand core concepts and emphasizes on critical thinking and problem solving to solve technical and musical issues on the keyboard. In addition, Tim also attempts to develop the student’s listening capability and urges them to be more attentive to their own playing and obtain “ideal” sounds based on context of the score.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM RAIN

Rain born in China, she was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music in 2009 under the supervision of Professor Liang Chai, the then Director of the Central Conservatory of Music Violin Department. In 2013, she was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music Graduate School and awarded a full national scholarship. In 2014, she got into the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, to joined in the famous American violin educator and performer Wei He’ studio with a scholarship and later granted the degree of Master of Music and Performance Study Diploma. In 2018, she became a Ph.D. candidate at UT Austin Butler School of Music. In 2020, she joined the Music Teaching program at the University of Melbourne to pursue a Master of Music Teaching.

While pursuing her undergraduate degree, she was a member of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra and traveled across China to give performances; she was a resident performer at Central Conservatory Baroque Ensemble as well, and had performed in the Beijing Concerto Hall and The National Grand Theatre many times . In 2014, she was invited to perform Bach Concerto For Two Violins in D Major together with her instructor Liang Chai and the orchestra of Central Conservatory Preparatory school at Beijing Concert Hall. During the period of her studying in the U.S, she managed to hold several solo recitals and complete multiple performances with SFCM Symphony Orchestra and SFCM Baroque Chamber Orchestra, the audiences are always take delight in talking about her confident performance style and excellent music expression.

From 2007 to 2013, she was the violin instructor of the Winds of Music Children’s Music Charity Foundation in Beijing. From 2014 to 2018, she served as the Violin Department Director at K&K School of Music of San Francisco Bay Area, during which her focus was assisting students to pass grading tests and entrance exams. The passing rate and admission rate of her students was as high as over 90%.

Guiding her aspirations of a creative career as a collaborative pianist, piano teacher and dance accompanist, Nicole is currently undertaking a performance teaching degree with Caroline Almonte at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (MCM).

Nicole is a busy and in-demand performer, educator, writer and mentor. She has performed with many chamber ensembles, freelanced as a collaborative pianist for music examinations and concerts, ballet classes, performed with orchestras (Melbourne Youth Orchestra, and Victorian Youth Symphony Orchestra), inspired future pianists through her piano teaching, featured as a writer in Rehearsal Magazine, Fever Pitch Magazine, and in major blog platforms for the University of Melbourne.

Nicole specialises in classical piano, AMEB practical and theory examinations, and ensemble teaching. She loves teaching students from preschool to adults, including students with special needs. She has a well-balanced teaching approach by creating a supportive, student-centred learning environment, while nurturing their love and passion for music and the piano by continuing to further develop their music learning and practice.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM LYOKO

Lyoko Myers is an experienced flute teacher and performer. Her recent achievement is completing her post-graduate studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (majoring in Classical flute performance). Through her flute playing journey, she was fortunate to learn from a variety of teachers from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and the University of Queensland. In addition, she was offered the opportunity to perform in Master Class settings to learn from World-Class flute players including Andrew Nicholson and Michael Cox.

She wishes to share her knowledge in flute playing and performance preparation using mental and physiological approaches simultaneously.

She is also experienced in providing aural training, general knowledge, and teaching music theory as part of the AMEB flute examination preparation.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM ADAM

One of Australia’s leading show choir directors, Adam founded the first of his choirs, the Divine Divas of Sunbury in 2007. He has enjoyed an illustrious career as concert pianist, chamber musician and accompanist. He has performed as recitalist throughout Australia, USA, Europe, Taiwan, Korea, China, Japan and New Zealand. Adam was Musical Director, pianist and vocalist with renowned cabaret group ‘Pot-Pourri’ for10 years, undertaking more than 15 overseas concert tours with the 5-piece group. Adam’s dedication and service to the Hume community has been acknowledged through being named ‘Hume Citizen of the Year’ in 2009, as well as being a National Finalist in the2009 Herald Sun ‘Pride of Australia’ medal for services to the community. During Adam’s competitive career, he amassed over 200 prizes in Eisteddfods throughout Australia, including the City of Sydney Eisteddfod Piano Scholarship. He was also a finalist in the Stravinsky International Piano Competition for Young Artists in Illinois, USA in 1990 and 4th prizewinner in the Ettlingen International Competition for Young Pianists in Germany, 1991. Adam is also a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Study Grant and is a Churchill Fellow. He also studied on full scholarship at London’s Royal Academy of Music from 1992-1996. He has performed in master classes conducted by Andras Schiff, John Lill, Peter Donahue, Alfred Brendel, Pascal Roge and Imogen Cooper.

As a professional drummer, Phil has over 18 years live and studio experience. His musical journey begun by taking private tuition in high school, where he quickly developed practical performance, and critical listening skills. These skills, he applies in every lesson, writing session, rehearsal, and performance.

Phil is also a co-founding member of Melbourne indie-pop band ALPINE. The band has released two highly acclaimed albums, and received multiple accolades including iTunes Alternative Album of the Year, The Age EG Album of the Year, and multiple ARIA nominations. Over the past decade, ALPINE have completed multiple headline tours and performances across Australia, Asia, and North America, including an appearance on late night US television program Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Phil’s role as a music educator is that not only of a teacher, but a mentor and a friend. From his experience in live and studio performance, and the passion he brings to every human interaction, he offers his students a very fun and passionate music learning experience.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM MELISSA

Melissa started her music career by receiving a scholarship to study diploma of music at the Frederick Chopin University, Warsaw, in 2012. She then came back to Melbourne and continued her music studies at Monash University under the tutelage of a renowned pianist and piano teacher, Robert Chamberlain. During her studies at Monash, she found her passion in teaching and took Graduate Diploma in Education at ACU to kick start her teaching career. Since completing her studies, she has worked as a music teacher, piano teacher, concert pianist, chamber musician, composer, and accompanist, performing interstate and internationally.

Over the past few years, Melissa focuses on teaching piano to students of all age and level including students with special needs and disability. Her passion and achievements in teaching was displayed as recently she was invited by Monash University to give a talk to students at the Faculty of Education about her experience in teaching music at Victorian school system. Melissa is always eager to share her teaching skills with her students, strive to meet students’ needs, and share the joy of learning music together with her students. This has been proven as three of her students were the first prize winner of three different piano competitions in 2020.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM FREDRICK

Fredrick is currently a first-year student studying at the University of Melbourne, Bachelor of Commerce, major in Accounting and Finance. Besides his commerce study, Fredrick pursues his passion of music, as he has been learning classical piano since he was five years old. Fredrick has achieved multiple award during his high school, including Wesley College Academic Dux of Music HL IBDP in 2018 and receiving a Pass with Distinction for AMEB AMUSA in 2016. Fredrick also actively performs in the high school community with solo performances in Graduation Ceremony and several school events. He has made his first concerto appearance, performing at the Melbourne Recital Centre in 2018 with conductor Daniel Gare and the Wesley College Orchestra. Moreover, Fredrick has also participated in various Jazz Bands at Wesley College, competing in Division 3 at the Mount Gambier Jazz Music Festival.

Other than an experience performer, Fredrick is also a competent piano teacher, as he has been teaching since 2017, teaches students ranging from 8 years old to 17 years old. As a young piano teacher, Fredrick engages with his student by using creative methods to build the fundamentals for younger students, as he believes that strong fundamentals are the success to become a great pianist. Because of his passion for music and mentoring, Fredrick is dedicated to helping students experience the joy of music by way of finding their own voice and fundamentals.

Melbourne based multi-instrumentalist, with 10 years teaching experience in homes and schools across Melbourne, Tom is currently completing his Bachelor of Education (Secondary Music) majoring in classical guitar. Tom provides students with a strong musical foundation through the study of repertoire, composition, improvisation and music theory, and strives to involve students in the learning process.

Josh Hu is a Chinese Jazz/Classical Saxophonist based in Australia. He graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Music and Master of Teaching at University of Melbourne.

He has won numerous international and local competitions, and given performances in China, Japan, USA, New Zealand, and Australia. Recent achievement includes his solo performance at George wood performing art centre with Artist “Baritone Hong”. A sold out performance with FCCCI in Melbourne Townhall.

As a teacher Josh is very experienced in teaching AMEB and VCE performance Syllabus. His students many has achieved great result and some have taken music as their career choice. He is also head of woodwind in the 2 school that he teaches in with responsibility of overseeing school ensemble music and overall student enrolments.

Marcus started his musical journey at a young age with the piano, but developed a love for the cello after taking up the instrument, strongly influenced by the recordings by Jacqueline du Pre, Jonas Starker and Gregor Piatigorsky. He completed the AMEB certificate of performance while in middle school, and received a full mark for the performance component of Higher Level Music in the International Baccalaureate program. Throughout his musical life he has participated in orchestras and chamber music; having lead his highschool orchestra's cello section and musical orchestras during his highschool years, played in the Shanghai City Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne University Baroque Ensemble and the Monash Academy Orchestra, and having won chamber music prizes in highschool. Marcus is currently studying a double degree in Music Performance and Science at Monash University.

Angela started her piano journey at the age of 5. She is currently studying bachelor of Commerce/Music degree at Monash University, majoring in classical piano performance under the guidance of Len Vorster. Her previous teachers also include Dr. Kenji Fujimura and Anthony Halliday. She has received a pass in her AMusA Exam along with a distinction in Grade 5 Music Theory. As a teacher, she would love to bring as much joy as she can to each student’s piano journey, and to help them build and achieve their individual goals, as she believes goal is the main source of motivation (to practise an instrument.)

Lorenzo’s infatuation with music is a long time affair. Having discovered the guitar at the age of 13, what started as a hobby soon became his life calling. In love with all the classic rock and 80s guitar virtuoso scene, Lorenzo is a skilled musician with over 21 years of experience as a performer and educator. Graduated with high distinction from a Bachelor of Music Degree at Victoria University, Lorenzo favours a highly technical playstyle and motivates his students to express their inner voice creatively through the study of music theory applied to the composition of guitar solos and original songs. As a member of the “Forza Showband” ensemble, he has toured Australia in 2018 and 2019 while his solo works “Hyper / Real” and “Every Moment Counts” are available on Spotify and all major digital stores. At the end of 2020, Lorenzo has also published his first instructional book named “Guitar: Inspirational Practice” and he’s currently working on the production of his third solo album.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM LIZZY

Lizzy has been trained as a classical violinist since the age of 5, achieving A.Mus, L.Mus and Grade 5 Theory in AMEB, studying under Julian Quirit and then Markiyan Melnychenko. Her passion for violin was fuelled through regular engagement in Eisteddfods, ensembles and music theatre. She holds a Bachelor of Music Performance (honours) specialising in Violin Performance at the Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne. Lizzy has performed in both soloist and orchestral capacities at venues including Hamer Hall, Melbourne Recital Centre and Elder Hall (Adelaide Conservatorium). Her performance credits include work with ANAM Orchestra, Melbourne Youth Orchestra (MYO), Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp, and the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet’s performances of Swan Lake (2017) and the Nutcracker (2016).

I WANT TO LEARN FROM MAGGIE

Xiwen is an experienced flute teacher, who has over 14 years of flute study and performing. She has completed her music performance bachelor's degree at Monash University and is currently completing her Master of Teaching (Secondary music) degree at the University of Melbourne. Xiwen has been playing in many different music ensemble groups, and currently working as the music director of Melbourne University's Chinese Music Group. Xiwen is familiar with AMEB, VCE, theory, and ensemble teaching, she is passionate to teach students performance skills along with music theory, experience different music styles, and share the love of music through exploration in the music journey together.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM SKYE

Skye Robinson is a classical musician and passionate teacher. She is currently studying her Masters in Music Performance Teaching at The University of Melbourne under the tutelage of Rachel Bullen. She completed her Bachelor of Music at The University of Melbourne in 2019. During this degree she engaged in numerous playing and performance opportunities, including performing in two wind band ensembles, an orchestra, a musical, and chamber groups, as well as solo performances. She is also currently working part time at Eltham College, teaching the oboe and conducting the beginner band ensemble. She has taught students who are working towards and have completed AMEB exams, ensuring all requirements are covered and the students are as prepared and confident in themselves as they can be. Skye’s current Masters degree hones the skills she has already acquired throughout her musical years, as well as teaching her new methodologies for improving and fostering her student’s playing. Skye has played and performed oboe since the age of 12, and during her Master’s degree she studied many woodwind instruments and is capable of teaching them. Skye is a passionate and dedicated teacher who aims to instil every student with a love of creating music and the ability to self-improve.

Jungbeen is a Korean-Australian pianist currently studying at Monash University. Studying Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Secondary Education double degree, she specializes in Classical Piano Performance. Jungbeen is and continues to endeavour to become an approachable and encouraging teacher. Jungbeen has pursued her passion for music since she was five years old, encompassing various genres. She is currently under the tutelage of Darryl Coote at Monash University and played in small and large ensembles such as the Piano Duo and Monash Piano Ensemble which were conducted by Aura Go and Dr Tomoe Kawabata.

Jungbeen is an experienced piano teacher with over three years of experience in teaching, as she started teaching back in high school. With students ranging from age groups four to adult years, she is capable of teaching just about anyone. As she believes understanding the joy that music brings is the very first step in becoming a fine musician, Jungbeen always strives to inspire her students and encourage them to develop their style. She is open to students with any skill level and tailors each lesson to lead everyone to their goals.

Emily is a Japanese-Chinese violinist who is passionate about performing and sharing the joy of music with others. She is currently based in Melbourne and studies at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) under Dr. Robin Wilson. Emily’s successes in competitions across Australia have presented her with a number of incredible performance experiences. Memorable moments include being awarded the Overall Winner prize at the NSW/ACT Secondary Schools Concerto Competition and in the same year being a semi-finalist of the Kendall National Violin Competition. Emily has also won multiple categories at the Sydney Eisteddfods including the “Violin 19 and under” category at age 14. In recent years, Emily has had the honour of performing as soloist with a number of orchestras across Australia, including the Academy Orchestra of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Penrith Symphony Orchestra, the Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra and the Melbourne Art of Sound Orchestra. Emily was also invited to perform with the Australian Piano Quartet, and has appeared live on the 3MBS Radio Station in Melbourne. Emily has been awarded her LMusA (dist.) and AMusA (dist.) diplomas on the violin. She also holds an AMusA diploma with distinction on the piano, and as a pianist, has performed as soloist under the baton of Dr. Nicholas Milton.

Trudie Potter has completed a Bachelor of Music from Monash University, specialising in Popular Voice. Performing publicly since the age of 13, she has developed versatility and experience within the performance industry. Trudie is a multi-instrumentalist, proficient in guitar and piano as well as voice; working as a soloist, band member and backing vocalist. With experience in a range of genres, Trudie provides a well-rounded learning experience that combines technique, theory and creativity. Trudie has a passion for jazz and contemporary music styles has an extensive repertoire that cover a range of vocal techniques.

Jack is a professional tuba player and has been playing since 2007. He graduated from Marcellin College in 2012 and was awarded Dux for Music Performance and subsequently was granted a place in the Bachelor of Music at both the University of Melbourne and Monash University. Since being admitted into the Bachelor, he currently holds a position as a tuba player for the Australian Discovery Orchestra, as well as being involved with many semi-professions and amateur orchestras, including: Stonnington Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphonia, Surrey Hills Orchestra, Zelman Memorial Orchestra, South Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne University Wind Symphony, Melbourne Youth Orchestra, Percy Grainger Youth Orchestra, Melbourne Youth Wind Symphony, and the Australian Youth Band. He also debuted as a soloist in 2019, performing the Vaughan Williams tuba concerto in the Surrey Hills Orchestra Concertofest concert. He holds a Bachelor of Music (Performance – Tuba) and has completed his Masters of Teaching (Secondary – Music Classroom, Music Instrumental).

Born in Guangdong, Elita began to learn piano performance at the age of 5 under the guidance of a teacher from Xinghai Music High School. In the first year of high school, she has passed Grade 10 in piano, and in the third year of high school, she has passed ABRSM Piano Grade 8 and ABRSM Music Theory Grade 5. After moving to Melbourne, she entered Monash University to pursue a double degree in Music and Secondary Education, under the tutelage of Dr. Kenji Fujimura. In 2017, she successfully passed the Diploma of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

During her studies at Monash, Elita was an active performer. She has graced the stage of different venues, including Melbourne Recital Centre, Duneira House, Robert Blackwood Hall, etc. She has also won multiple awards during her studies for her outstanding results, such as Bernies Music Land Classical Piano Prize. She was also selected to participate in a short-term chamber music course in Prato, Italy.

Michelle graduated with both Bachelor and Master’s degree of Music, majoring in Piano Performance at Monash University under the direction of Dr. Tamara Smolyar. While pursuing her music dreams at Monash, she has obtained Graduate Diploma of Teaching majoring in music and mathematics education.

With over 10 years piano teaching experience, Michelle recognizes every learner is unique and absorbs knowledge differently. She incorporates different teaching strategies to transfer her music knowledge and piano techniques to her students. She is familiar with the current AMEB and ABRSM exam syllabuses and has developed structured lesson plans for students preparing for graded exam, including preparation on music theory, sight reading training, aural training and general knowledge. Other than exam preparations, she also encourages students to play contemporary and pop music such as Disney songs, Joe Hasashi, Yiruma and many more.

I am a professional musician and music teacher. My musical career spans over 20 years performing throughout Australia and overseas. My instrumentation is Keyboards, /Piano Guitar, Bass Guitar Drums and with my primary instrument being Hammond B3 Organ./Piano I perform and have done recording sessions with several Melbourne blues bands including the Sammy Owen Blues Band, Geoff Achison. Steve Boyds Rum Reverie, Mike Elrington, John Mcnamara, Daren Jack,(Syd )Simon Kinny Lewis (SYD)& International acts such as Kirk Fletcher(US & Chris Cain(US). My own Hammond Blues jazz trios. B3 Breakout & LeroyZ Hammond Combo are regular performers at Jazz and Blues Festival, across Victoria.

In teaching I feel my personal strengths are kindness and understanding and an ability to empathise with the students’ needs and I too enjoy seeing their pleasure in music. I am professional and read more than music – I read my students, I listen to their needs and tailor my lessons to suit.

Amogh is a passionate and nurturing violinist and teacher and started playing the violin at the age of seven-and-a-half. During the lockdown period, Amogh has had the chance to perform in a range of virtual performances, ranging from solo and chamber works to orchestral repertoire. In March, Amogh participated in the Festival Napa Valley online performance of Verdi’s ‘Va Pensiero,’ which was featured on the Violin Channel’s website. In terms of his solo and chamber music playing, Amogh had the opportunity to perform a virtual concert for St Paul’s Cathedral, in August. Given his broad experience in instrumental teaching and community music teaching initiatives, such as the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s Pizzicato Effect, Amogh strongly believes in universal access to musical education. Amogh generally prefers the AMEB method, but is open to teaching from other syllabi, depending upon what students need and/or request.

Dr. Mikhail Dumnov (Misha) is a composer, performer, and teacher. He was initially trained in music performance and composition in the former USSR, where he grew up. Mikhail started working as a composer in film, theatre, and contemporary art music in 2001 whilst living in Melbourne, Australia. Since 2003 Dr. Dumnov has taught violin in a variety of styles and contexts, from classical to various Eastern folk traditions as well as various pop and dance genres. Mikhail moved to Edinburgh in 2011 and has toured Europe and Australia as a band frontman - he has been known in the UK for songwriting and vocal/violin work with his band BOBOK, as well as an improviser-violinist. Dr. Dumnov has recently completed a PhD in Composition at the University of Edinburgh. A small part of his Mini-Ballet "Bird Dances", entitled "A Flurry of Calls" was performed by Scottish Chamber Orchestra in 2018. Mikhail frequently performs in free-improv events across Europe. and Australia and continues to teach Composition, Violin and Improvisation in Melbourne, having returned there in September 2019. He is the author of a new improvisation pedagogy method and continues practice-based research in this field. Current (2020) work includes film soundtracks and new composition commissions from Southern Cross Orchestra and Orquestra Marga Marga(Chile), as well as a commission from the City of Melbourne for LaMama Theatre. Dr. Dumnov will be appearing (online) as guest lecturer at the University of Kansas in February 2021.

April is a Sydney based piano teacher, composer and multi-instrumentalist (piano, singing, violin and recently bass guitar and saxophone). She is currently pursuing her final year of a Bachelor of Music Composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and an AMusA in classical piano.

As a teacher, April has a strong passion for music education and personalised learning, with four years teaching experience in piano — both privately and in Sydney schools. She is capable of teaching all ages and is particularly passionate about teaching children and school students, as she is aware of the responsibility teachers have in fostering passion for music in children. She draws on her multi-faceted music education and Steiner education background to teach, focussing on tailoring music lessons to the individual student, and does her best to ensure that her students are engaged and enjoying their time at the piano.

Lessons will include: - Learning of piano repertoire (AMEB syllabus and/or student’s choice), skills in musicality and expression, ear training, piano technique and sight-reading, and an education in general music knowledge and theory.

Dominique Parker is a professional jazz musician, educator, composer and audio engineer from Sydney. She holds a Bachelor of music from UNSW, majoring in jazz creative practice. She has extensive experience in classical and contemporary music, being the principal double bassist for UNSW Orchestra and a regular band conductor. Dom was a nominee for the Jann Rutherford Memorial Award and received a scholarship to continue her music studies at Abbey Road Institute. Dom specialises in Jazz harmony and performance, music history, sound design and composition. Her one-on-one lessons are tailored to her clients.

Born in Spain, Rodrigo is undoubtedly an up-and-coming guitarist of his generation. He has been surrounded and immersed in musical culture from an early age and took up playing the guitar after listening to some of the luminaries of the guitar world. Following his graduation from high school with a gap year around the world, he went on to complete his Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Performance from the Jazz Music Institute in Brisbane, Australia in 2016.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM MADISON

Madison Leeds has graduated from Australian College of the Arts (Collarts), with a Bachelor of Arts in Contemporary Music Performance (Singer-songwriting/Voice). Madison has been professionally teaching music whilst playing music solo and within bands across Melbourne/interstate, having extensive experience within the Melbourne and Australian music industry. Madison has also been involved in various music festivals whilst also being classically trained as a vocalist for 5 years and frequently singing Jazz repertoire. Madison also has a very strong passion for expression and musical theatre voice training, being involved in numerous musicals and productions.

Initially learning piano as a first instrument, Leeds has learnt a variety of instruments such as flute, violin, recorder, trumpet, guitar (acoustic/electric) and voice (contemporary and classical) along with AMEB theory training and VCE Music and VET Music Industry.

Madison has a strong focus for mentoring/one on one classes and is able to provide strong results in classes through teamwork/individual achievements. This is also done through nurturing and adapting to different needs in order to have classes run smoothly whilst forming a positive relationship with students and parents. Madison is a very passionate teacher and enjoys teaching younger children to young adults and can’t wait to work with you!

Buddy Lovett is an orchestral percussion and drum kit performer and teacher, specialising in all disciplines within these instruments. Currently studying a Bachelor of Music (Performance) with Daryl Pratt at Sydney Conservatorium of Music, his experience includes private and group teaching experience, a wealth of orchestral playing, and exams, solo performance and competition experience. This mixed experience allows him to teach a wide variety of students, whether they need extra assistance for their percussion playing in band, want to master certain percussion instruments, or just want to play new, fun and interesting music.

Lewis is a talented teacher, composer and performer from the United Kingdom. He completed a Bachelors Degree in Music at the University of Leeds in England where he specialised in the History and Culture of Music as well as Analysis. Whilst at Leeds Lewis also started to develop an interest in music technology and composition, opting to undertake a year in industry during his third year of study. During this year he would go on to compose music for TV adverts at world famous production house ‘Candle Music’.

Lewis has experience teaching students of all ages and levels. He splits his teaching schedule between private lessons, as a peripatetic teacher in schools and in after school clubs. He was Head of Guitar, tutoring at The Rock Project in Southeast England for a year prior to coming to Melbourne. During this time, he mentored young musicians and helped them form a band for an end of year concert. He is happy to teach individual lessons, or small to large groups.

Having completed an Honours degree in composition at the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music, Caterina has over 10 years of experience in music teaching. She has taught students from ages 5 to 50, from beginner musicians to tertiary performers. Her exploits at Monash University have awarded her the Peter Tahourdin Memorial Prize for composition, as well as the Cengage Western Music Theory Prize, and she completed her Honours degree with a final mark of First Class Honours. She has worked in state and private schools, commonly tutoring VCE music students through their theory and aural components. As well as being known among university students for her ability to individually teach Ear Training in a comfortable and productive manner, she was well-received by students during her time as Ear Training lecturer at Monash University.

Caterina offers tutoring to students of all ages in music theory, aural & ear training, sight reading & sight singing, and can cover material in the following syllabi: VCE music, AMEB grades 1-5 (Music Theory, Musicianship or Music Craft), AMEB aural and general knowledge (for practical exams), and Melbourne-based university courses.

Dominic Moore is a multi-instrumentalist who has been studying and playing music since the age of 4. He is primarily a pianist and has played acoustic/ electric guitar, bass guitar and drums for over 12 years.

In 2017, Dominic moved from his hometown in the Hunter Valley to Sydney in order complete a Bachelor of Music Studies (Contemporary Music) at The Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Under the guidance of industry professionals such as Paul Mac, Rainbow Chan and Toby Martin, the course developed his production, performing and compositional skills while also allowing him to work with a range of musical styles and personalities.

This year, Dominic began a Masters of Teaching (Secondary) to allow him to make his passion for teaching his career. He prides himself on his understanding of modern-day teaching methods and pedagogy and aims primarily for all his students to find enjoyment and passion in their playing.

Weihang Li is an active conductor, a music director and a music tutor in Australia who graduated from Sydney Conservatorium with the Master of Conducting. He started music teaching and conducting in 2009 and he has successfully conducted many orchestras in China and Australia for more than 10 years including Tianjin Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and Derwent Symphony Orchestra, etc. He is also the founder and the president of C-Silk International Music Association Inc. and its Youth Ensemble. Weihang Li teaches violin, Music Theory and Conducting for either AMEB or non-AMEB students. He is passionate about cultivating students’ ensemble experience at their earliest stage to provide them opportunities to play music in a group in the future. He is also good at training students’ musical ears during his violin lesson. As a conducting teacher, he is also good at training conductors’ basic conducting techniques and music analysis.

Julia Magri has been learning Double Bass for ten years, achieved her Associate of Music in Double Bass in 2017, and is Currently studying her second year of a Bachelor of Performance (Double Bass) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She is well-versed in the AMEB Grades for Classical Double Bass but is also experimenting with the performance and composition of improvised Classical-Jazz Fusion in her Jazz trio, the Vermillion Trio. Julia has participated in Australian Youth Orchestra Programs since 2018 and has received several scholarships for her passion and potential as a young musician. After she completes her Bachelors degree, Julia is planning to do a Masters in Ethnomusicology with a focus on research and development into 21st Century Western and Chinese Double Bass prototypes.

Ira specializes in teaching young children and adult beginner piano lessons. With seventeen years of teaching experience Ira is enthusiastic about helping kids discovering the joy of playing the piano and reaching their full potential while learning music. Ira believes that every child is a natural musician and that they can develop a great ability. As a music teacher she loves to inspire that natural capacity. Ira recognises that every child is different and so she always continue to improve her teaching approach to maximise her students’ potential.

Ira’s qualifications include Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, LRSM, DipABRSM, and she is receives full accreditation from the Music Teacher Association NSW.

Lyka graduated with a Bachelor Degree of Music Education Major in Piano and Voice as her secondary, from Centro Escolar University Manila, Philippines in 2016. She’s now currently enrolled at Melbourne City Institute of Education (MCIE) in Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. She started playing piano at the age of 6 and had her formal music lesson at the age of 12. Lyka has over 7 years of experience in music teaching locally and internationally. She handled students from ages 5-30. During her college days, she used to play at the concert band handling percussion instruments and joined in a University Choir as a soprano and joined from several competitions.

Right after graduating in College she took the Board Examination for Teachers wherein she passed the exam and got her license as a Professional Music Teacher. She believes that learning piano can be done in a way that children or an individual can enjoy and play comfortably in a relaxed manner or setting. Because she also believes that one can absorb the knowledge when he/she is happy and relax. She also uses different techniques and strategies for you to be able to learn music theories as well as the instrument (piano) in a very easy way.

Lyka is a very passionate, funny and friendly music teacher that aims to transfer her knowledge and skills about music to other people with a high quality and value. She always considers the individual differences of each student that’s why she use differentiated instructions and activities.

Alexandra Thomson is an Australian clarinettist and has recently returned home after studying a Masters of Arts at The Royal Academy of Music in London. Whilst at RAM, Alex worked alongside conductors such as Semyon Bychkov, John Wilson, Simon Young and Timothy Weiss. In London, Alex studied with Mark van de Weil, Timothy Lines, Laurent Ben Slimane and Dr Chi-Yu Mo. She also appeared in regular masterclass series with Patrick Messina and Andrew Marriner. Her primary interests include performing contemporary and experimental music and this is strongly reflected in her recitals. Prior to moving to London, Alex completed a Masters of Music (Studies) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where she studied with Chris Tingay, and a Bachelor of Music (Honours) at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts in Perth, where she studied with Dr Philip Everall and Lorna Cook.

Novelyne is currently a graduate student, studying at the University of Melbourne, Master of Music Therapy. Before moving to Melbourne, Novelyne is an established classical piano teacher in Indonesia, with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the locally renowned Universitas Pelita Harapan Conservatory of Music.

Novelyne has been teaching since 2016. She has taught students from as young as 4 years old to adults. Harrisson Ball is one of Australia's youngest up and coming commercial freelance trumpeters, educators, and arrangers, specializing in the unique ability to tame the upper register. Harrisson has carved his unique path through the Australian music industry and is well respected and regarded as one of Australia's best young commercial trumpet players.

Harrisson has performed with high end artists such as Vanessa Price, Jeff Clayton, James Morrison, Mat Jordell, David Jones, Carl Mackey, Wycliff Gordan, Emma Pask, Jerry Nowak, Jeff Clayton, Marianne Pracheski, Phil Stack, Dave & Paul Panichi, Latin American Grammy award winning artist Yan Collazo and more. Harrisson's has also completed three full contracts aboard, Liberty and Jewel of the seas and Azamara’s Quest, traveling across 39 different countries around the World by the age of 19.

Harrisson is currently the lead trumpet of the Australian National Youth Jazz Orcastra, Salsa Kingz Band, and Sydney All-star Salsa band. Due to Harrisson's versatility, professionalism, and passion for all musical genres, he has created and defined his very own space in the Australian music industry.

Double Bachelor WAAPA graduate Amy Fortnum began her training in 2013 with a Bachelor of Music, specialising in Classical Voice. After graduating with her Bachelor in Classical Music (Voice), Amy was then accepted into WAAPA’s prestigious Music Theatre Bachelor course. During her studies, Amy spent over five years perfecting her vocal technique under the guidance of Australian principle soprano Elisa Wilson. She starred as leading lady Julie Jordan in WAAPA’s production of Carousel at the Regal Theatre in 2018 (Dir. Jason Langley), Celeste in Sunday in the Park with George (Dir. Tyran Parke) and Storyteller in Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (Dir. Shaun Rennie). Amy made her professional debut in the 2019 world premiere of Mimma: A Musical of War and Friendship, originating the role of Giana alongside star soprano Mirusia Louwerse. Most recently, she performed with Australian Shakespeare Company in their annual season of The Wind in the Willows, in Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens. In 2010, Amy opened her private music teaching business in her home studio in WA. Since then, she has tutored over 50 students in vocal technique, music theory, guitar and stylistic development. Her teaching style focuses on how breath and emotion can affect the voice, alongside classical technique. She is currently completing her Master of Teaching. Amy relishes in sharing her passion for music and opening her students’ eyes to the power of mastering something as emotional, challenging and personal as music.

Ms Sara Ma is a professional piano teacher who has been teaching for over 10 years. She is currently running her own music studio in Blackburn south. She completed her Bachelor of Music (performance major) and Bachelor of Education from Monash University in 2012, and further accomplished a Master degree of teaching from University of a melbourne in 2015. In addition, she attained her LRSM (Licentiate diploma)from ABRSM in 2010.

Sara is extremely experienced with ABRSM graded exams and has well planned and structured lessons for preparing exams and scholarships for schools. She has successfully helped students get through their graded exams as well as diploma exams with distinctive results.

Not only does Sara work successfully with older students, she is also an expert in teaching younger students starting from as young as age 2.5. She uses a system of teaching materials that are designed for young and preschool learners. Learning piano is always fun and full of laughters with Sara. Furthermore, Sara has had great success in teaching modern piano music and working with adult students.

While fundamental techniques are greatly focused in Sara’s teaching, enjoyments and interests are very well catered because she believes that being interested and having the love of music is the greatest drive to effective practise and learning. In teaching, Sara caters for and identifies unique needs of every single student and she always adjusts her teaching style and content accordingly.

Lucienne Wynne is an experienced and enthusiastic Voice Teacher. She is a second year student at Monash University, studying a Bachelor of Music and specialising in Performance via the Popular Voice stream. She has also completed VCE Music in Contemporary Popular Voice. Lucienne enjoys teaching a range of genres such as Pop, Jazz, Rock and Musical Theatre. She welcomes students of any skill level and tailors one-on-one lessons to suit each individual’s needs and goals. She has experience teaching students with varying musical backgrounds and abilities, ranging from children to adults.

Lucienne is a kind and friendly teacher. She focusses on exercises, repertoire and vocal techniques – both from practical and theoretical viewpoints. This enables students to build control and confidence in their voices.

Thomas Webster is an experienced saxophonist with a Bachelor and Honours of Music from Melbourne University, specialising in contemporary improvisation. He has a diverse musical background, studying and performing in various genres including jazz, classical, traditional West African and South Indian Classical. He is an active member of Melbourne’s music community, performing at the Moomba festival multiple times and in the notable jazz clubs Bennetts Lane and Paris Cat.

Thomas has experience teaching all ages across a wide range of styles. He believes in a balanced approach to teaching, focusing equally on learning fun repertoire and the musical skills required for students to ultimately teach themselves.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM CARMEN

Carmen currently attends the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music majoring in Violin and was awarded with the Albert and Marie Diamant Scholarship upon acceptance. She has recently graduated studying violin and piano at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. She has completed the Certificate of Performance exam with a high distinction, received her Diploma of Associate in Music (AMusA) and has completed the AMEB grade 8 piano exam. She has also successfully competed in several competitions in both violin and piano. She has performed in Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight, as well as working alongside professional ensembles such as the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO), Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and Ludovico’s Band.

She has been teaching for a couple of years now and is committed to helping students between the ages of 3-18 to experience the joy of playing the violin and piano. She has helped her students prepare for AMEB examinations and achieve high results. She is a very passionate, enthusiastic and experienced teacher and structures her lessons around the student, their personality and their needs, making sure they are playing at the best of their abilities. I WANT TO LEARN FROM SAM

A vibrant double bassist, Samuel Nock expresses his passion for music through his engaging performances on the concert stage and private teaching.

In demand as a freelancing musician, Samuel has performed with orchestras and ensembles across the east coast of Australia. He has performed as a casual section double bassist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and was a Young Artist for the Flowers of War’s Diggers Requiem with the Australian War Memorial Orchestra, held in Canberra in 2018. During his Bachelor of Music studies at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, he participated in Australian Youth Orchestra’s National Music Camps and concert seasons. Samuel is currently finishing a Master of Music in Orchestral Performance at the University of Melbourne, a program in collaboration with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Samuel focuses on developing his students’ personal musical voice and deep enjoyment for music making in his teaching, bringing his enthusiasm, passion and expertise to each lesson.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM HAMISH

Hamish Gould completed his Master of Arts in Music Performance at Monash University last year, specialising in Classical Voice. He has experience as a freelance vocal soloist, primarily undertaking oratorio and concert work, as well as in private vocal teaching with students of a variety of ages. While the majority of his performances have focussed on classical repertoire, ranging from Medieval to 20th Century, his background is in Music Theatre, and before entering his degree at Monash, he undertook a Foundation Course in Music Theatre at the VCA. This has given him flexibility in his teaching, and he has comfortably taught jazz, pop, and rock in the past, despite these styles being outside of what he would normally perform. Regardless of the style, he aims to help his students develop ease of vocal technique, while also fostering a development of musical understanding.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM JOSH

Born and raised in Melbourne, Josh is a classically trained pianist who is passionate about sharing the excitement, depth and colour of music, whether it be through his performance or his teaching. After receiving a perfect performance score at the end of his secondary studies in 2016, Josh pursued study under Dr. Mikhail Solovei (former chair of piano, Donetsk College of Music) at the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Professor Jerry Wong (co-chair of piano, University of Melbourne) at the Melbourne Conservatorium. In 2020 Josh graduated with a first class honours degree in music performance from the University of Melbourne – he also holds a bachelors degree in music performance from Monash University.

Josh has participated in masterclasses and coaching in both solo and chamber performance with musicians such as Prof. Kevin Fitz-Gerald (Thornton, USA), Prof. Max Cooke, OAM, Prof. Andrzej Pikul (Poland), Dr. Tamara Smolyar (Duo Chamber Melange), Dr. Kenji Fujimura (Trio Anima Mundi), Katherine Austin (Waikato, NZ), Geoffrey Saba (UK), Aura Go (KIAZMA Duo), and many others

He has successfully prepared students for tertiary music applications, VCE music performance examinations, and a range of AMEB graded exams. Recognised for this varied experience in preparation for multiple different examination bodies, Josh is a fully accredited member of the Victorian Music Teachers’ Association (VMTA).

I WANT TO LEARN FROM ANGUS

Angus Dunbar is an Australian double and electric bassist with proficiency in a vast collective of genres and musical styles. He explores a range of popular artists such as Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, James Brown, and Herbie Handcock. Angus has currently completed his diploma and is about to complete his second year of the corresponding Bachelor of music in Jazz Performance. This course is being undertaken at Brisbane’s leading tertiary institution, Jazz Music Institute. Currently, he is being taught by renowned Australian jazz double bassist Ashley Turner who completed his Master of Jazz Performance in New York City. Ashley undertook his studies with the legendary jazz double bassist Ron Carter, the most recorded bassist in the history.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM GEORGIA

Georgia is currently completing her Bachelor of Music in clarinet performance at The University of Melbourne. Studying under the renowned David Griffiths, she has also received masterclasses from nationally and internationally acclaimed artists such as Jose Franch-Ballester, Alan Vivian and Paul Champion. In 2018 Georgia successfully completed her AmusA on Clarinet and received a near perfect score of 47 in VCE Music Investigations. She was subsequently invited to and performed at the VCE Season of Excellence’s Top Class Music at the Melbourne Recital Centre. She also won the Regional First prize of the Australian Youth Classical Music Competition (2018) and was invited to perform as a guest at National Finals. Georgia has experience tutoring at both primary and high school level and is passionate about sharing her love of music. She values that every student has different goals and is excited to nurture musical development in individuals of all ages and abilities. Through lessons, a student can expect technical, interpretive and musical approaches to be fostered and developed.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM ANA MARIA

Ana Maria is a musician, with a Master’s in Music Research. She specialized in both classical and popular music. Being an experienced teacher, she is well equipped with skills to teach music, from little kids to adults. She has participated in international masterclasses with Veronica Reyes (Cuba), Richard Biaggini (Chile) and Stanley Ritchey (United States). Her extensive experience was drawn from her performances with various groups, including popular groups, jazz groups, Latin fusion groups and others, and she has also performed with groups such as Opera Orchestra and Mariachis. She has also organised and participated in Cultural Concerts as a teacher, as well as taking part in masterclasses in Cuba, Chile, and different parts in Colombia.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM MICHAEL

Hi, I’m Michael Matthys, a specialist drum teacher in Melbourne.

I’m confident teaching all levels from beginner to advanced students and encourage people of all ages to get involved. I currently teach students ranging in age from 5 to over 50! I always ensure the drum lessons are customised to suit the students level and musical interests. I will ensure my students will feel valuable for the time they have spent with me for their lessons. Time during my lessons will be spent to develop goals and discovering musical tastes to make sure lessons are rewarding and engaging. I have been playing drums for 20 years and completed my Bachelor Degree in Europe and specialised in Rock/Pop. During my time as a drummer in my journey, I did a lot of recording sessions for local Artists and producers in Belgium. While I was specialising recording engineering studies in London I played in live bands in various locations.

As a Drum teacher, I will be focusing to establish the correct drum techniques for my students that are critical to being a good drummer. I do encourage my students to develop their own style with the help of drum tutorials that are tailored to the student’s current skill level.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM FERDI

Ferdianto Poniman is an experienced drummer and drum teacher. He has an experience of playing drums since he was nine years old and started performing when he was fifteen. Prior to his study from JMC Academy, Ferdi has been teaching in his home country of Indonesia since 2014 and went to study a year later. During his study at JMC Academy, Ferdi has been played for various different genres of his university band in certain different venues such as the Gasometer Hotel, Bendigo Hotel as well as the Memo Music Hall St. Kilda when he delivered his final recital with JMC Academy. Moreover, Ferdi now has his Bachelor Degree in Contemporary Music Performance which he earned in 2018 and currently he works for Metro Music School where he teaches students from children to adult with the levels from beginner to intermediate.

As a teacher, Ferdi has a passionate, kind and humble personality and has a keen interest when he is working with most of his students. His focuses are developing his students’ technical abilities as well as how to developed their musical expression in drums. He strongly holds the belief that drums is the most vital musical instrument in a band as drummers are the “tempo keeper” of the band and all other instruments will always follow the drumbeat. Furthermore, he strongly believes that music education is vital for the development of brains, expressions, creativity and imaginations. He also focuses on the sight-reading skills, accuracy, theory and students style of music.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM ANGELA

Angela is a Brisbane based Clarinettist who has a great passion for music and eager to share this passion and the skills of clarinet playing and performance with her students. She has been playing the clarinet for more than 15 years and has obtained her ATCL from Trinity College London (AmusA) on clarinet and a distinction in AMEB Grade 5 Theory of Music. She has involved in professional and amateur orchestras across Hong Kong and Australia including Hong Kong Wind Ensemble, Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble of Queensland Youth Orchestras while she has also performed as a soloist in many concerts. She has played music pieces from different periods and of varied styles including Classical, Romantic, Chamber, Tango and Jazz. Thus, she is comfortable to teach any music styles.

Angela is a patient and friendly music teacher who is able to work with students of all ages. She is passionate about developing individualised lesson plans that help her students to develop clarinet technique, theory and musical expression while achieving their own music goals.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM SAMUEL

Samuel Zong is an award-winning Australian pianist and flautist with vast experience as a solo, chamber and orchestral musician.

Samuel was awarded both the Associate in Music (AMusA) and Licentiate in Music (LMusA) on the piano and the flute before the age of 15, and has received awards in numerous eisteddfods including the Boroondara Eisteddfod Piano Competition, where he received an Honorary Award alongside the Lions Club Legacy scholarship, the AMEB Leslie Barklamb Flute Prize and recently the Scotch College Piano Competition, where he received first place. Samuel performed on radio station 3MBS (103.5 FM) as part of The Talent program and made his concerto debut playing Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 at Hamer Hall in 2019. He was Principal Flautist of the Scotch College Symphony Orchestra from 2018 to 2020. He has toured the United States with the Orchestra, performing in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., New York and Boston.

As an avid chamber musician, Samuel is a member of various ensembles, including piano trios and duets. He has profound experience in the nuances of cooperative music-making. In 2020, his trio, the Scotch College Horn Trio, won the Bendigo Chamber Music Prize as well as placing third in the Musica Viva Strike a Chord Lockdown Legends Competition. Additionally, Samuel is a keen collaborative pianist, providing accompaniment to various flautists as well as woodwind, brass and string players as well as vocalists and choirs. He specialises in AMEB exams, high school scholarship music exams and VCE Music Performance. Samuel currently holds a valid Working with Children Check.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM FUNG

Mr. Mok is a professional Saxophone and Clarinet teacher graduated from Monash University specialising in classical music performance. He holds a Grade 8 Theory of Music and a Saxophone Music Performance Diploma from The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (Dip- ABRSM).

He has been teaching both instruments for over 20 years across Hong Kong and Australia and high- ly experienced with ABRSM and AMEB examination boards. With passions of teaching, Mr. Mok analyses every student’s ability and teaches accordingly. He also emphasises the learning environment and atmosphere and makes sure that every student is both technically and emotionally catered. He believes that learning a instrument is not only learning how to make it sound, but also learning musical skills such as sight reading, theory and aural abilities.

In his music studio, multiple performance opportunities are provided every year in different venues to help students with their performance practice. Mok intends to start a woodwind ensemble to play different style of music, even in his own arrangements.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM LETICIA

Leticia is an encouraging, passionate and dedicated vocal teacher and performer. She has recently completed an Advanced Diploma in Music Industry, majoring in performance and composition. Leticia is a proficient and experienced performer across a variety of styles, including Pop, Jazz, Soul, Rhythm and Blues, Rock and Musical Theatre.

Leticia first began performing at six years old in local productions and at ten years she began taking vocal lessons. Since, she has completed seven vocal exams and has performed in numerous musical productions. While completing her Advanced Diploma, Leticia wrote and recorded four original songs at Don’t Poke the Bear studio in Geelong. These are set to be released on all major streaming platforms in 2021. Leticia enjoys performing her original music, playing both piano and guitar to accompany herself.

Leticia welcomes students of all ages and experience, tailoring lessons to suit the specific student’s goals, needs and interests. Leticia focuses on teaching vocal technique, beneficial exercises, developing performance skills, incorporating theoretical knowledge and building repertoire while providing a warm, comfortable and supportive environment.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM WINNIE

A pianist recognized for her affection for classical music, Winnie Chih-Wei Kuo is a current Master student studying at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, under the tutelage of Dr Jerry Wong. She has previously completed her Bachelor of Music under Professor Thomas Linde at the Tunghai University in Taiwan. During the years of studying in Taiwan (2014-2018), Winnie was renowned as a piano teacher and an accompanist. She was not only an accompanist for soloist, but also a rehearsal pianist for choral, opera, and orchestra. Her unique personality portrayed in her performances made her stood out and she has won the first prize of concerto competition in the final year of her Bachelor degree. In 2018, Winnie received a scholarship from Kent State University and proceed to the United State to study her Master. In the same year, she was the alternate winner of the concerto competition held by the Kent State University. A year later, Winnie decided to move to Melbourne to follow her piano professor, Dr Jerry Wong who is now teaching in the Conservatorium. She has also received a scholarship from Melbourne Conservatorium of Music to study her Master.

Being an experienced teacher, she has taught students as young as three years-old to around sixty years-old. She believes that music can bring joy to people, and would love to see more people enjoy music.

I WANT TO LEARN FROM LUNA

Luna started learning piano at the age of four. In 2015, she received a Bachelor's Degree in Classical Piano Performance from the School of Music of Monash University. During college, she played in solo piano and chamber concerts many times and had joined the woodwind band as a keyboard/pianist. Under the tutelage of piano educator and pianist Tamara Smolyar. Luna also has a Master's Degree in middle school teaching (Music Teaching).

Luna completed the 9th grade piano exam of the Central Conservatory of Music at the age of 12. She also obtained the Diploma of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (dipABRSM) and Licentiate of The Royal Schools of Music (LRSM), and she has more than 8 years of experience in teaching ABRSM. As a piano teacher, Luna's goal is to stimulate students' curiosity and promote lifelong music learning. At the same time, she also emphasises on technical studies and practice.
