A Malaysia-born, Melbourne based classical guitarist, Kevin was the champion of the 3rd Malaysia’s Tarrega Music School Guitar Camp and is acclaimed for his flawless guitar skill and musical showmanship. He won a silver award in the 5th open category Malaysia National Classical Guitar Competition. Kevin is also a lead guitarist with numerous guitar ensembles across Malaysia and Singapore, such as the Muar Chih Tze Guitar Ensemble, Muar Torres Guitar Ensemble and The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Guitar Ensemble, Singapore.

Kevin is very committed in guitar performance and music education. In 2012, he was awarded a full scholarship for a Diploma in Music Teaching in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and a Diploma in Music Education in National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.

Kevin’s previous guitar teachers including Tan Seng Meng (Malaysia) and Manuel Cabrera II (Philippines). Furthermore, he has performed in several masterclasses conducted by Ken Murray (Australia), Richard Wright (UK), Colin Tommis (UK) and Fabio Montomoli (Italy).

In 2015, Kevin has successfully organized a solo recital back in his hometown in Muar, Johor, Malaysia and received a standing ovation for his highly skilled performance. Apart from classical guitar, Kevin was a choir member with NAFA during his studentship . He has performed masterpieces such as Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 and Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem alongside with the Singapore Symphony Choir and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in the Singapore Esplanade Concert Hall. Besides that, Kevin performed Mozart’s Requiem alongside with the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Orchestra in Victoria Concert Hall in Singapore.

Previously a teacher in a Singapore’s public secondary school, Kevin has been instrumental in implementing guitar module in the classrooms with the goal of instilling music appreciation among pupils and enhancing music performance across the school.

Kevin is currently holding a sponsorship by the Singapore’s Ministry of Education and the Ellinor Gertrude Harris Bequest to pursue his Bachelor of Music majoring in classical guitar performance in the University of Melbourne under tutelage by Dan Mckay (Australia) and continues his passion in participating in the University of Melbourne’s guitar ensemble.
