Gina Oh
A classically trained violinist, Gina completed her Bachelor of Music at the Monash University Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music, having studied under the tutelage of Dr. Elizabeth Sellars, Lisa Grosman, Rachel Beesley, and Erica Kennedy. She has performed internationally in both solo and ensemble capacities in the USA, Italy and Australia, in collaboration with notable artists such as Tony Gould, Archie Roach, Lior, Nigel Westlake and Benjamin Northey. Gina has also successfully competed in a number of performance competitions, including placing first in the West Gippsland Eisteddfod’s Instrumental Solo Championship.
Since beginning her violin studies from the age of ten, Gina has always been devoted to ensemble performance, being a part of the Melbourne Youth Chamber Strings, the Percy Grainger Youth Orchestra, State Music Camp, and later being appointed as the concertmaster of the Mount Waverley Secondary College Senior String Ensemble. As an orchestral musician, she has been a member of the Monash Academy Orchestra, Monash Sinfonia and Australasian Orchestra, and also enjoys performing chamber music in both concert and commercial settings. Not only does Gina love classical music, she loves performing in musical theatre bands. Along with independent productions of well-known musicals like “Kinky Boots” and “Les Misérables”, she performed in the Australian premiers of “The Dressmaker” and “My Brilliant Career”, both works developed as part of the Jeanne Pratt Musical Theatre Artists in Residence Program.
At the heart of her teaching, Gina’s passion as an educator lies in seeing her students flourish as critical and creative thinkers through their developing musicianship. She is committed to setting students up with the tools they need as musicians, including good techniques, aural and sight-reading skills, and musical knowledge and theory. Each lesson is tailored to the individual needs of the students to ensure they are engaged and enjoying their learning, while guiding students to achieve their best with their examinations and performance goals
