
Xiaoyi (Michelle) Ooi
Michelle graduated with both Bachelor and Master’s degree of Music, majoring in Piano Performance at Monash University under the direction of Dr. Tamara Smolyar. While pursuing her music dreams at Monash, she has obtained Graduate Diploma of Teaching majoring in music and mathematics education.
With over 10 years piano teaching experience, Michelle recognizes every learner is unique and absorbs knowledge differently. She incorporates different teaching strategies to transfer her music knowledge and piano techniques to her students. She is familiar with the current AMEB and ABRSM exam syllabuses and has developed structured lesson plans for students preparing for graded exam, including preparation on music theory, sight reading training, aural training and general knowledge. Other than exam preparations, she also encourages students to play contemporary and pop music such as Disney songs, Joe Hasashi, Yiruma and many more.
Michelle travels to students, with teaching locations Glen Waverley, Wartina South, Burwood East, and surroundings; Keysborough, Clayton and surroundings. During the Covid lockdown, Michelle teaches online with Zoom platform.
Michelle is also a professional concert page turner. She has page turned for well known Internationally recognized concert pianists such as Dr Tamara Smolyar, Stephen Hough, Daniel de Borah, Dr Kenji Fujimura, Connie Shih and many more. She is currently booked in as one of the page turners for the Sydney International Piano Competition 2021.
