Caterina Turnbull has completed her Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Composition at the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music in which she earned a final mark of First Class Honours. Having recently completed her Master of Arts and Cultural Management at the University of Melbourne, she balances her love of music administration and management with her love for teaching. Her 10+ years of teaching experience has seen her working with Alphington Grammar School, Avila College, Mannix College, the Monash Music Students' Society, and during her final Honours year in 2017, she lectured all 9 undergraduate Ear Training classes at Monash University. Her position as Monash's Ear Training teacher was extremely well received by students and she was invited back to teach in 2019. As such, she has experience with a large variety of levels and is comfortable teaching students of any ability.

While Caterina only offers theory, aural training, and sight reading/sight singing tutoring at the moment, her skills and experience draw from her performance and practical musical background. Throughout her employment history, she has taught piano, voice, violin, cello, composition, string ensembles, vocal ensembles, as well as has run workshops for the use of notational software. She has been the accompanist for community choirs and student exams, been involved with church services as both choir member and soloist, and performed with the National Youth Choir of Australia, a national-level residential choir that selects 28 singers from across Australia. In 2015, she was awarded the Peter Tahourdin Memorial Prize for her compositional work during her first year at University, and in 2017, was commissioned by Julian Burnside AO QC to write a 15-minute string quartet to premiere at the Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music.

In 2017, she was awarded the Cengage Western Music Theory Prize for her marks at university, and has consistently achieved scores of 95 and over in all of her music theory and ear training classes during her undergraduate degree. Having gone through the course without perfect pitch, she is competent in instilling skills and methods that use analytical thinking to tackle difficult tasks, but also with a long-term view to developing skills for a more intuitive comprehension of musical material. Her lessons are comfortable and accessible, where weaknesses are tackled and discussed in a non-threatening and straight forward manner. She is extremely encouraging of questions and highly advocates that students develop their own sense of self-awareness for future growth.

Caterina offers tutoring to students of all ages in music theory, aural & ear training, sight reading & sight singing, and can cover material in the following syllabi: VCE music, AMEB grades 1-5 (Music Theory, Musicianship or Music Craft), AMEB aural and general knowledge (for practical exams), and Melbourne-based university courses.
