
King Fung Mok
MOK King Fung is a graduate of Monash University. Specializing in performance, he studied saxo- phone under Michael Lichnovsky. He can play well in all the saxophone part. gaining Distinctions in the Performance subject, each year. He participated in the Monash Wind Symphony, Harmonium Saxophone Quartet, Youth Musician Program (Tutor) and the hand bell ensemble in Toorak Uniting Church. Fung was invited to perform “Persuasion” a saxophone solo with Monash Wind Symphony in Melbourne Winds Band Festival and Monash Lunchtime Concert in 2010. He also invited to per- form a saxophone solo in Christmas Eve service in St John’s Anglican Church Camberwell between 2009-2011, Sunday music service in Burwood Uniting Church in 2012, and a saxophone solo in Easter Good Friday service in Toorak Uniting Church in 2012. He won a 2nd place award in wood- wind solo – open group in Eisteddfod- a Festival of Music and Drama.
Mok King Fung was born in Hong Kong in 1983. He began saxophone lessons at the age of 15 and joined the school marching band at TWGHs S C Gaw Memorial College, during which time be studied with Mr. Joseph Yu Lung Sang. Under the guidance of Mr. Joseph Yu, He started his wind band training as a saxophone player in the Hong Kong Young Musicians’ Wind Orchestra (HKYMWO). Since then he has studied the saxophone with Miss Jennifer To, and holds a Grade 8 Theory of Music and a Saxophone Music Performance Diploma from The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (Dip-ABRSM).
Before commencing his Music Degree in Australia, Mok King Fung participated in the HKYMWO, and many different bands which included the Vocational Training Council Orchestra, Lee Wai Lee Wind Band (band leader) and the Hong Kong North Philharmonic Orchestra. He performed with HKYMWO overseas in 5th Summer Band Festival at Jeju, Korea (2001), the 4th Macau In- ternational Band Festival (2003), the 12th international Conference of the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) in Singapore (2005), the Hong Kong International Band Festival (2005-2008), and the 12th, 14th, 15th Asia & Pacific Band Directors Association Conference in Guangzhou (2002), Macau (2006) and Taiwan (2008).
Mok King Fung was invited to perform in different events, including the “2002 Ten Outstanding Young Persons Selection” and the “Kwai Chung Mini Concert” in 2003 for saxophone quartet, “Lee Wai Lee open day” in 2005 and 2006, and “McCafe opening” in 2007 for saxophone solo. Apart from performing, he also participated in Master Classes by Kenneth TSE, Claude Delangle, Philippe Geiss, Barry Cockcroft, Yasuto Tanaka and David Griffiths. He was the saxophone tutor of different primary, secondary schools and at Parsons Music.
In 2009 Mok King Fung came to Melbourne to study Music at Monash University. After graduating in 2011, he went back to his hometown Hong Kong to teach in different primary and secondary schools as a conductor of orchestra, school band and small ensemble as well as a woodwind tutor. In addition to that, he is also professional at arranging music for band for competitions and recitals. In 2016, Mok returned Melbourne with his family and continues his career in his own studio. In his music studio, multiple performance opportunities are provided every year in different venues to help students with their performance practice. Mok intends to start a woodwind ensemble to play different style of music, even in his own arrangements.
