LEARN FROM SAM NOW!
A vibrant double bassist, Samuel Nock expresses his passion for music through his engaging performances on the concert stage and private teaching.

In demand as a freelancing musician, Samuel has performed with orchestras and ensembles across the east coast of Australia. He has performed as a casual section double bassist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and was a Young Artist for the Flowers of War’s Diggers Requiem with the Australian War Memorial Orchestra, held in Canberra in 2018. During his Bachelor of Music studies at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, he was principal double bass of the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and participated in Australian Youth Orchestra’s National Music Camps and concert seasons. Samuel is currently finishing a Master of Music in Orchestral Performance at the University of Melbourne, a program in collaboration with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

As a chamber musician, Samuel has had the opportunity to explore interesting styles and genres alongside traditional classical chamber music. He toured regional Queensland with indie-classical quintet Topology with their audio-visual work Queensland At Home; it combines original music composed by Topology’s double bassist Robert Davidson and archival footage of “Queenslanders engaging in everyday activities”. Samuel has enjoyed performing chamber ensemble arrangements of video game music by AWR Music through their internationally touring concert, A New World: Intimate Music from Final Fantasy.

Samuel focuses on developing his students’ personal musical voice and deep enjoyment for music making in his teaching, bringing his enthusiasm, passion and expertise to each lesson.

Samuel recently finished a season of Wagner's opera Das Rheingold with Melbourne Opera and is looking forward to touring to Western Australia with Topology in July, with their show Taking Shape through Musica Viva in Schools.
