Melissa Kwok is a Melbourne based pianist and piano teacher who completed a Bachelor of Music at Monash University in 2013 under the tutelage of Robert Chamberlain, who is now the head of piano at Monash University. Later, in 2014, Melissa commenced a Diploma of Education at ACU. Since completing her studies, she has worked as a music teacher, piano teacher, concert pianist, chamber musician, composer, and accompanist, performing interstate and internationally.

Melissa was a finalist of the first Indonesian International Piano Competition, hosted by Prof. Jaya Suprana in December 2011. She was awarded scholarship to continue her piano study in the Frederyk Chopin University in Warsaw, under the guidance of Prof. Andrejz Dutkiwich, and gave recitals at local venues. Melissa is a former member of The Borge Duet, a piano duet inspired by a genius pianist and comedian, Victor Borge. With the Borge Duet, she gave a successful concert in Methodist Ladies College’s James Tatoulis Auditorium and was invited by German counsellors to give concerts at her hometown in Jakarta, at the Goethe-Insitute.

Other than a passionate musician and teacher, Melissa was the Music Director and Conductor of Monash University Catholics on Campus Choir from 2014-2018. She received her first conducting training from Jodie Spooner-Ryan, Head of Performing Arts at Meriden School, Sydney. Soon after, she took the choir to compete for Eisteddfod Choral Competition and won third prize at Eisteddfod by the Bay and first prize at Waverley Eisteddfod. In year 2017, Monash University honoured her service and sponsored her to study pipe organ and conducting from an Australian Maestro, Anthony Halliday.

Over the past few years, Melissa focuses on teaching piano to students of all age and level including students with special needs and disability. She diligently and consistently study about piano pedagogy from different resources and platform which includes attending the biannual Australian Piano Pedagogy Conference. Her passion and achievements in teaching was displayed as recently she was invited by Monash University to give a talk to students at the Faculty of Education about her experience in teaching music at Victorian school system.

Melissa is always eager to share her teaching skills with her students, strive to meet students’ needs, and share the joy of learning music together with her students. This has been proven as three of her students were the first prize winner of three different piano competitions in 2020.
