Buddy Lovett is a solo percussionist and orchestral performer who takes delight in finding interest and excitement no matter the performance piece, and enjoys passing on that interest and love of music to his students. Beginning on piano at the age of 7, he later commenced drum kit lessons at the age of 10. He soon progressed to marimba and orchestral percussion, learning from Robert Oetomo throughout his later high school years at Barker College. He is currently studying a Bachelor of Music (Performance) with Daryl Pratt (Chair of Percussion, Sydney Conservatorium of Music).

Buddy's orchestral experience includes his role as Principal Percussionist of the Sydney Youth Orchestra (2019 - present), as well as past and continued performances with other Sydney- based orchestras including NSW Youth Orchestra and Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra. Buddy attended the 2019 Sydney Youth Orchestra United Kingdom tour as Principal Percussionist, visiting and learning from the music rich cities of Cardiff, Manchester, London, Cambridge and Oxford. On this tour and in Sydney, Buddy has participated in lessons and masterclasses with Tony Bedewi (Principal Timpani - BBC Symphony Orchestra), David Hext (Principal Percussionist - Hallè Orchestra), Peter Fry (Philharmonia Orchestra, London) and Alexander Radziewski (Principal Timpani - Hamburger Philharmoniker) amongst others.

Buddy's solo experience includes performing 'The Russian Marimba Concerto' at Chatswood Concourse (sold out). Notably, in July 2020, Buddy became one of the youngest ever winners of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Snare Drum Award. He has also placed 2nd in the 2019 Australian Marimba Competition, was Percussion 'Champion of Champions' at the 2019 NSW State Solos (overall winner from drum kit, snare drum, mallet percussion and timpani categories) and 1st Place in Snare Drum at the 2019 Australian Percussion Eistedfodd.

Not only a distinguished performer, Buddy is also a passionate music educator. He takes an individual approach to each student, finding the best way to communicate his experience through the variety of instruments that make up percussion as a whole. From there, he allows students to find joy in what they are playing, whether they are practicing drum kit for a rock band, learning and perfecting their concert band music, or working on solo percussion such as marimba.
