Angus Dunbar is an Australian double and electric bassist with proficiency in a vast collective of genres and musical styles. He explores a range of popular artists such as Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, James Brown, and Herbie Handcock. Angus has currently completed his diploma and is about to complete his second year of the corresponding Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance. This course is being undertaken at Brisbane’s leading tertiary institution, Jazz Music Institute. Currently, he is being taught by renowned Australian jazz double bassist Ashley Turner who completed his Master of Jazz Performance in New York City. Ashley undertook his studies with the legendary jazz double bassist Ron Carter, the most recorded bassist in history.

Angus performs live at a variety of venues and has done for the past five years. Accumulating a mass of knowledge in dealing with stage management, sound engineering, performance anxieties and bookkeeping as a professional freelance bassist. These years of professional playing has educated Angus in working with and alongside other musicians. In doing this, he strives to teach the importance of improvisation and accompaniment. Angus also participates in big band formats such as concert bands, wind symphonies, stage bands, small and large jazz combos, and marching drum lines.

Angus has been teaching professionally for three years both privately and through local Brisbane music institutions. He has taught an array of ages and is consistently able to develop a healthy teacher/student rapport. Angus believes this is foundational for active learning and encouraging students of numerous musical backgrounds to progress through their instrumental studies.
