Xiwen (Maggie) Mai
Xiwen is an experienced flute teacher, who has over 14 years of flute study and performing. She completed her music training at Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music (Monash University), has been playing in Monash Wind Symphony, Monash Flute Ensemble, and Monash Chamber Music Ensemble. Xiwen is also AMusA qualified, she is professional as a soloist as well as a member in different ensemble groups.
Xiwen is currently completing her Master of Teaching (Secondary) degree at the University of Melbourne, she has been working as a pre-service teacher in different Victoria’s secondary schools as a classroom music teacher and ensembles’ conductor, with a strong understanding of VCAA (Victorian Curriculum) including VCE music performance units, she can support students for their school music programs as well as preparing them for their VCE music performance exams.
As being the music director of Melbourne University Chinese Music Group currently, Xiwen is very passionate to support young musicians to achieve their music goals from different aspects.
In Xiwen’s music lessons, she will be teaching students music performance skills along with music theory, the most important thing is to teach students to understand and enjoy the music they play or listen, get to know about the history, the composers, and maybe some interesting stories behind the music.
