Skye Robinson
Skye Robinson is a well-rounded classical musician and passionate teacher. She began her life long love of music on the piano at age 5 and took up the oboe at age 12. She has continued to foster and grow that love throughout her life.
Skye attended a renowned musical high school, Eltham High School, where she engaged in numerous ensembles including chamber and wind. She was the sectional leader of the top Wind Band Ensemble for three consecutive years which was the start of her journey to becoming a musical leader and teacher.
Immediately after high school she was accepted into The University of Melbourne to study a Bachelor of Music and received a scholarship to attend. During this degree Skye worked with many prestigious musicians, including Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s oboist Thomas Hutchinson, world known oboist Emma Black, chamber oboist Ben Opie, flutist Derek Jones, and clarinetist David Griffiths. Through Melbourne University Skye participated in chamber groups, wind ensembles, including Concert Band and Wind Symphony, and orchestras, including the Philharmonic Orchestra.
Outside of the diverse music world of Melbourne University, Skye also participated in musical theatre ensembles and was employed to play in the musical On the Town, and she was and still is part of the Melbourne based orchestra, Victorian Youth Symphony Orchestra (VYSO). During this time Skye also started teaching oboe and the beginner band at Eltham College. Every week she evaluates the progress her students have made, where they need to improve, and how to help them improve.
Skye uses a range of techniques to keep her students engaged, motivated and loving music. One of Skye’s goals as a teacher is to instil motivation and passion for music into her students so they are equipped with the techniques and knowledge to engage in effective practice and performance situations. Skye has taught students who are working towards and have completed AMEB exams, ensuring all requirements are covered and the students are as prepared and confident in themselves as they can be.
Skye is currently studying a Masters in Music Performance Teaching at The University of Melbourne. This degree is helping her to continue to improve her own playing, and teach her a wide range of teaching methodologies to suit each individual student’s needs. During this degree she has fostered the skills to teach a diverse range of woodwind instruments.
