Tom Wood
Tom has been performing and teaching guitar for over 10 years. A well rounded musician adept in jazz, rock, classical, blues, pop and soul, Tom developed his performance and compositional skills while completing his Bachelor of Music in 2015.
Tom is active in the Sydney jazz scene, playing with various groups including the Djangologists. Notable performance highlights include playing at the Manly Jazz Festival and a sold out show at the Paris Cat in Melbourne. He has had the privilege of being a guest musician on P&O cruise ships, performing as a four piece rock outfit and jazz trio. Tom has performed in the musicals Keating and Faces at the Factory Theatre, Sydney. He has recorded guitar for various Australian TV shows such as Pulse (ABCTV), as well as an award winning short film titled Veov Drive.
Known for his patient and caring demeanour, Tom endeavours to create fun and engaging lessons tailored to each individual. Working with students of all abilities, Tom can teach a variety of styles ranging from popular music, jazz and classical. Drawing on his experience of studying with industry professionals Jeremy Sawkins, Clive Harrison and Dave MacRae, Tom strives to impart these skills to his own students.
Tom is looking to continue his passion for music education through teaching. He is experienced at teaching guitar in a wide variety of styles, including jazz, classical and popular music. Tom particularly enjoys teaching improvisation, jazz harmony, sight reading, music theory, aural training, composition and songwriting. He enjoys tutoring students of all ages and abilities.
