Yin holds a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) in Cello Performance and Grade 8 ABRSM in Piano . She studied the Cello with Mrs Herminia Ilano, Deputy Principal of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and Professor Skocic Adalbert at the Konservatorium der Stadt Wien in Vienna. She was the principal cellist at the National University of Singapore Symphony Orchestra and has performed as a soloist with the orchestra, playing Kol Nidrei by Max Bruch. An active cellist, Yin has performed with many orchestras and chamber groups in their regular concerts. Yin also formed her own string quartet group, the Luminus Quartet, which was highly sought after for events and special occasions. She taught cello in schools and privately and her students get excellent grades for their ABRSM exams.

Yin moved to Melbourne in 2013. She is currently teaching cello at Highvale Secondary College. She was also previously a cello teacher at the Beaconhills College (Berwick campus) and Northcote High School. She teaches both individual and group, cello and doublebass students and prepares them for school concerts and exams. She was also a director of intermediate and senior string ensembles at the schools. Yin is a dedicated teacher with students ranging from beginners to advance levels. In addition to cello, Yin teachers piano from beginner to intermediate levels. She also provides piano accompaniment for Preliminary to Grade 4 AMEB exams for all instruments.
