Tomas McKeever Ford is a Sydney based Double and Electric bass player, with a focus on the technical proficiencies of both classical and jazz disciplines and how they can be applied outside of their more ‘insulated’ spheres.

Tomas has been regularly performing in the Sydney music scene and interstate for the last few years in a variety of contexts and ensembles including his two Contemporary Jazz/Improvising groups, Anoesis and Foshe respectively. In 2019, Anoesis placed second in the 13th International Bucharest Jazz Competition, and in 2020 Tomas received an honourable critique from John Shand of the Sydney Morning Herald for his work in the group. In 2018, Tomas opened for jazz-fusion icon Lonnie Liston Smith with his group Foshe, who have since been in high demand in the improvised house community, both locally and burgeoning internationally. Tomas has also been involved with local and international talent, such as Andrew Dickeson, the Dan Barnett Big Band, Satoko Fuji, Natsuki Tamora, Champion Fulton, Sandie White, Sandy Evans, Keyna Wilkins, Dan Pliner, Freyja Garbett and more. Outside of his more jazz/improvised settings, Tomas has been involved with the NSW Police Band, UNSW Symphony Orchestra, the UNSW New Music Collective, which performed at the Extended Play 24-hour Festival at City Recital Hall in 2019, and musical theatre, performing at the State Theatre in 2019.

Having completed a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) in Jazz Performance at UNSW, Tomas is looking to continue his passion for music education through teaching. Having taught in a variety of different institutions and educational settings for the past six years, Tomas can facilitate the needs of emerging bass players so that they can learn how to enjoy making music. Tomas is able to teach both arco (bowed) and pizzicato (plucked) Double Bass styles, jazz and classical harmony, sight-reading, arrangement, composition, ear-training, and stylistically informed performance.
