Carmen Lui
Carmen began learning the violin at age 3 and piano at age 5 and is currently attending the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music majoring in Violin studying with Dr Elizabeth Sellars. She was also awarded with the Albert and Marie Diamant Scholarship upon acceptance. She has recently graduated studying violin and piano at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School where she studied violin under the tutelage of Dr Curt Thompson, Michael Loftus-Hills, Lisa Grosman and Dr Alexandra Hiew, and piano with Dr. Julie Haskell and Len Vorster. She has completed the Certificate of Performance exam with a high distinction, received her Diploma of Associate in Music (AMusA) and has completed the AMEB grade 8 piano exam. She has also successfully competed in several competitions in both violin and piano.
She has performed in Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight and have played in many major concert venues such as the Sidney Myer Music Bowl and the Melbourne Recital Centre, as well as working alongside professional ensembles such as the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO), Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and Ludovico’s Band.
Carmen has been a violinist in several ensembles which include, the Melbourne Youth Orchestra (first violin), the University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, VCASS orchestra (concertmaster), as well as chamber ensembles such as string quartets, piano trios and string ensembles.
She has been teaching for a couple of years now and is committed to helping students between the ages of 3-18 to experience the joy of playing the violin and piano. She has helped her students prepare for AMEB examinations and achieve high results. She is a very passionate, enthusiastic and experienced teacher and structures her lessons around the student, their personality and their needs, making sure they are playing at the best of their abilities.
She knows that when you apply yourself to study a musical instrument, you will find it rewarding and enjoyable!
