One of MusoHunt’s teachers, Samuel, performed in the 2021 Bendigo Chamber Music Festival in early February as part of The Scotch College Horn Trio. The trio consists of Leon Fei on the violin, Derek Phillips on the horn and Samuel himself on the piano. The trio formed in 2017 under the guidance of Chiah Quah, and together have explored numerous works ranging from contemporary compositions to staple repertoire. They were invited to play at the festival after winning the Musica Viva Strike a Chord Competition Bendigo Chamber Music Festival Prize. The trio performed the vivacious first movement from Joseph Holbrooke’s Horn Trio in D minor, Op. 28, which they performed for the Lockdown Legends Competition held in late 2020, in which they came 3rd. They followed with the serene melodies from the third movement of American composer Eric Ewazen’s horn trio, before concluding boldly with the lively and joyous final movement from the Brahms Horn Trio Op. 40.
